Anne Hathaway praised Tom Holland as her “dream son” during promotions for The Odyssey, saying she hopes her children grow up to be as wonderful as him. The actress also shared admiration for Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon, and her co-stars while expecting her third child.
Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway has showered praise on her The Odyssey co-star Tom Holland, describing him as her “dream son” and expressing hope that her own children will grow up to be as kind and wonderful as the young actor. Hathaway made the heartfelt remarks during a promotional interview for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic film, where she stars as Penelope, the mother of Holland’s character, Telemachus.
During the interview, Hathaway and Holland appeared together when the interviewer asked the Oscar-winning actress how she brought her real-life “mother energy” into portraying Penelope, one of the central maternal figures in Greek mythology. Hathaway, who is currently expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman, responded warmly by connecting her on-screen role with her real-life experience as a mother.
“Well, first of all, I have to say as a mom in real life, I very much hope all of my children grow up to be as wonderful as my onscreen child,” Hathaway said while gesturing toward Holland. Her affectionate comment prompted smiles during the interview and highlighted the strong bond the two actors developed while filming.
She went on to describe Holland as “like a dream son,” adding that his personality made it easy to portray the close mother-son relationship required by the story. Hathaway credited not only the film’s compelling screenplay but also the talented cast for creating a supportive and inspiring atmosphere on set.
The actress also spoke highly of her fellow cast members, including Matt Damon, who portrays the legendary King Odysseus. Hathaway said she genuinely enjoys working with both Holland and Damon and praised director Christopher Nolan for fostering an environment built on mutual respect and collaboration.
“Tom is like a dream son,” Hathaway said. “I just really like Tom. I also love Matt, and I love Chris.” She added that despite the massive scale of The Odyssey, the production remained grounded because of the appreciation and respect shared among everyone involved.
According to Hathaway, the cast was united by a common goal of delivering performances worthy of Nolan’s vision. “I don’t think any of us wanted to let Chris down,” she explained. “So we all harnessed our highest strength and our highest passion, and we tried to be actors worthy of being in a Chris Nolan movie.”
The interview comes shortly after Hathaway announced that she is expecting her third child. The actress shared the news through social media on June 19 by posting a video revealing her baby bump. Captioning the post with the words, “x Baby, I’m yours x,” Hathaway received warm congratulations from fans and colleagues across the entertainment industry.
Hathaway and her husband, producer and businessman Adam Shulman, are already parents to two sons, Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. The couple has consistently chosen to keep their family life away from the public eye, occasionally sharing select personal moments while maintaining their children’s privacy.
