Operation Safed Sagar, starring Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, Dia Mirza and Adil Hussain, premieres on Netflix from August 7. Inspired by the Indian Air Force’s role in the 1999 Kargil War, the military drama highlights courage, sacrifice and the untold story of the Golden Arrows Squadron.

Netflix has announced that its highly anticipated military drama series “Operation Safed Sagar”, starring Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, Dia Mirza, Adil Hussain and an ensemble cast, will premiere globally on August 7. Inspired by one of the Indian Air Force’s most significant wartime operations during the 1999 Kargil War, the series promises to present an untold chapter of India’s military history through a compelling blend of action, emotion and patriotism.

Directed by Oni Sen, the series is set against the backdrop of Operation Safed Sagar, the Indian Air Force’s crucial air campaign during the Kargil conflict. Rather than focusing solely on the battlefield, the show explores the lives of the personnel behind the mission, highlighting their courage, sacrifice, determination and unwavering commitment to protecting the nation.

At the heart of the series is the story of the Golden Arrows Squadron, whose members faced extraordinary challenges while carrying out dangerous operations in the difficult terrain of the Himalayas. The narrative sheds light on the human side of warfare, portraying not only the bravery of fighter pilots but also the emotional struggles faced by their families and colleagues.

Created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Kushal Srivastava, Operation Safed Sagar also features Abhay Verma, Prajakta Koli, Mihir Ahuja, Taaruk Raina, Arnav Bhasin and Amrita Bagchi in pivotal roles. The makers have aimed to combine large-scale military action with deeply personal stories that reflect the values of friendship, leadership, sacrifice and duty.

Producer Sanjay Routray of Matchbox Shots LLP said the series honours a defining chapter in India’s history that deserved to be portrayed with authenticity and cinematic scale. He noted that when Kushal Srivastava brought the extensively researched script to the production house, the team immediately recognised its potential to become an impactful and meaningful series.

Routray said the production balances intense military operations with emotional moments that capture the courage and humanity of the people who served during the Kargil War. According to him, the project is intended not only as a war drama but also as a tribute to those whose heroism often goes unnoticed.

Co-creators and producers Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Mehboob Pal Singh Brar of Feel Good Films explained that the project offered a rare opportunity to explore the world of Indian Air Force personnel from an insider’s perspective, drawing upon Kushal Srivastava’s experience in the Air Force. They said the story evolved into one that goes beyond military conflict to focus on relationships, impossible choices and the personal sacrifices made in service of the nation.

The production of Operation Safed Sagar involved filming across more than 100 locations, including sequences shot at altitudes exceeding 16,000 feet. The makers also assembled a large ensemble cast and incorporated extensive visual effects to recreate the operational environment with realism while maintaining an emotional connection with viewers.

Netflix India described the series as a landmark project inspired by the Indian Air Force’s role in the Kargil War. Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India, said the streaming platform was entrusted by the Indian Air Force to bring this story to audiences, making it a first-of-its-kind Indian war drama centred on Air Force pilots and their extraordinary missions.

She said the series serves as a tribute to the courage, camaraderie and sacrifice of the Golden Arrows Squadron, while also offering viewers an immersive experience through cinematic storytelling, high production values and cutting-edge visual effects.
