Tripura MPs recorded poor MPLAD fund utilisation, with only 22.78% of Rs 41.7 crore spent and just one project completed, placing the state 22nd nationally. Updated April 2026 data highlights slow development project execution across all three parliamentary constituencies.

Tripura’s performance in the utilisation of the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) Fund has emerged as significantly below the national average, with the state recording a low expenditure rate and an extremely poor project completion record. According to the latest data available on the digital governance platform Empowered India, updated in April 2026, only 22.78 percent of the total MPLAD funds allocated to the state’s three Members of Parliament have been utilised, while just one development project has been completed.

The figures indicate that a total of Rs 41.7 crore has been allocated under the MPLAD scheme to Tripura’s three parliamentarians for undertaking development works in their respective constituencies. Despite the availability of funds and recommendations for around 100 projects, only a single project has reached completion, raising concerns over the pace of implementation and execution of public development initiatives.

Nationally, Tripura has been placed 22nd among 36 states and Union Territories in terms of MPLAD fund utilisation. The comparison becomes more striking when viewed against the national performance. Across the country, Rs 703 crore has been allocated under the MPLAD scheme, of which Rs 520 crore, or nearly 74 percent, has already been utilised. Nationwide, 4,413 development projects have been completed under the programme.

Among Tripura’s three parliamentarians, East Tripura Lok Sabha MP Kriti Devi Debbarman recorded the lowest utilisation rate. Data shows that Rs 14.7 crore was allocated under her MPLAD authority. However, only Rs 1.9 crore, representing 12.7 percent of the total allocation, has been utilised so far. Although 49 projects have been recommended for execution in her constituency, none has been completed as of the latest update.

The performance in West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency, represented by former Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb, was comparatively better but still remained below the national average. Out of an allocation of Rs 14.7 crore, only Rs 4.6 crore, equivalent to 31.1 percent, has been utilised. Records show that 29 projects have been recommended under his MPLAD allocation, but no project has yet been completed.

Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee is the only parliamentarian from Tripura to have completed a project under the MPLAD scheme during the reporting period. He received an allocation of Rs 12.3 crore, of which approximately Rs 3.5 crore, or 24.9 percent, has been utilised. A total of 56 projects were recommended under his authority, with one project successfully completed.

The MPLAD scheme enables Members of Parliament to recommend developmental works aimed at creating durable community assets and addressing local infrastructure needs in their constituencies. Effective utilisation of the allocated funds is generally viewed as an important indicator of the pace of grassroots development and administrative efficiency.

The latest figures suggest that while fund allocations to Tripura’s MPs remain substantial, implementation has progressed slowly, resulting in a limited number of completed projects. The state’s utilisation rate of 22.78 percent, compared to the national average of 74 percent, highlights a significant gap in development fund execution.

The data, last updated in April 2026, provides an overview of the current status of MPLAD implementation and reflects the progress made in fund utilisation and project completion across Tripura’s parliamentary constituencies.
