The Centre has approved 56 rural road projects worth Rs 96.73 crore under PMGSY-IV for West Tripura, covering 74.51 km to improve all-weather connectivity, strengthen rural infrastructure, enhance access to education, healthcare, and boost socio-economic development across 56 habitations.

he Central Government has approved 56 rural road projects worth approximately Rs 96.73 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-IV, Batch-I for 2026-27. The projects, covering a total road length of 74.51 kilometres, have been sanctioned for the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency, aiming to improve all-weather road connectivity and accelerate socio-economic development across rural areas.

The approval was granted by the Union Ministry of Rural Development, with Union Rural Development Minister informing West Tripura Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb through an official communication regarding the sanction of the projects.

Expressing his gratitude, MP Biplab Kumar Deb thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for extending continuous support towards strengthening rural infrastructure in the state.

According to Deb, the sanctioned package comprises 56 rural road projects, of which 30 roads are located in Sepahijala district and 26 roads in Gomati district. Together, these projects will provide all-weather road connectivity to 56 rural habitations across the parliamentary constituency, ensuring year-round transportation facilities for thousands of residents.

The MP said that the improved road network would significantly enhance the quality of life in rural areas by reducing travel time and improving access to essential public services. Better roads are expected to facilitate easier transportation for students attending educational institutions, patients travelling to healthcare facilities, and farmers transporting agricultural produce to local and regional markets.

He noted that reliable road connectivity remains one of the key drivers of rural development, as it supports economic activities, improves access to government services, encourages investment, and strengthens links between villages and urban centres. The newly approved projects are therefore expected to play a crucial role in promoting inclusive growth and improving living standards across the beneficiary regions.

Biplab Kumar Deb also stated that the people of Tripura have consistently benefited from various development initiatives undertaken by the Central Government in coordination with the state administration. He attributed the steady pace of infrastructure development to the collaborative efforts of what he described as the “double-engine government” led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with support from the Tripura government under Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.

He expressed confidence that the implementation of these projects would further accelerate the state’s development journey by creating stronger transport infrastructure and opening new opportunities for economic growth in rural communities.

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-IV is a flagship rural infrastructure programme of the Government of India aimed at providing durable, all-weather road connectivity to eligible unconnected habitations. By improving rural transportation networks, the scheme seeks to enhance access to education, healthcare, markets, and other essential services while contributing to balanced regional development.
