Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced emergency humanitarian aid to earthquake-hit Venezuela, deploying rescue teams, medical supplies, and field hospital support after twin powerful earthquakes killed dozens, injured hundreds, and triggered international relief efforts for affected communities across the country.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has announced a major humanitarian assistance mission to neighboring Venezuela following the devastating twin earthquakes that struck the South American nation on Wednesday, causing widespread destruction, dozens of deaths, and hundreds of injuries.

The Brazilian government confirmed that emergency aid, including search and rescue personnel, specialized equipment, medical supplies, and a field hospital, is being dispatched to support relief operations in Venezuela as authorities continue searching for survivors trapped beneath collapsed buildings.

Lula revealed that he held a telephone conversation with Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, to express Brazil’s solidarity with the Venezuelan people and coordinate the country’s immediate humanitarian response.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Brazilian leader said the discussion focused on identifying the most effective way for Brazil to assist its neighboring country during one of the worst natural disasters in Venezuela’s recent history.

As part of the emergency response, a Brazilian Air Force KC-390 transport aircraft is scheduled to depart from Guarulhos International Airport carrying a specialized rescue team consisting of 36 firefighters, four National Civil Defence technicians, and four experts from Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency.

The aircraft will also transport approximately nine tonnes of rescue equipment designed to strengthen search-and-rescue operations for victims believed to be trapped under the rubble of collapsed residential and commercial buildings.

Brazil has also planned a second humanitarian flight for Saturday, which will deliver additional relief materials, including equipment required to establish a fully operational field hospital. The shipment will include 100 solar-powered water purification systems, emergency medicines, surgical supplies, and other essential medical equipment to assist healthcare workers treating earthquake victims.

Lula emphasized that Brazil would continue monitoring developments in Venezuela and remain committed to providing whatever assistance may be required throughout the rescue, relief, and recovery phases.

“We will continue to monitor the progress of relief efforts for the victims in order to provide all necessary support to our Venezuelan brothers and sisters,” the Brazilian president said.

Meanwhile, Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodriguez has unveiled a series of emergency measures aimed at accelerating rescue operations and rebuilding damaged communities.

According to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez, the government has ordered the immediate mobilization of heavy machinery from private companies to remove debris and clear blocked roads. Authorities have also established a 200-million-dollar emergency assistance fund to finance relief and reconstruction efforts.

In addition, special credit facilities will be made available to business owners affected by the disaster, enabling them to rebuild damaged enterprises and restore economic activity in the impacted regions.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil confirmed that the government is coordinating international humanitarian assistance and maintaining close communication with foreign governments offering aid. Several countries from Latin America and other regions have expressed solidarity with Venezuela and pledged various forms of humanitarian support.

The powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck Venezuela in quick succession on Wednesday. The epicenters caused extensive destruction across the north-central state of La Guaira, while severe structural damage was also reported throughout the Caracas metropolitan area.

Residential buildings, public infrastructure, hospitals, schools, and commercial establishments suffered varying degrees of damage, forcing emergency agencies to launch large-scale rescue operations across multiple affected districts.

Authorities have confirmed that at least 32 people lost their lives, while more than 700 others were injured in one of the country’s deadliest seismic disasters in decades. Rescue teams continue searching damaged buildings amid concerns that additional victims may still be trapped beneath collapsed structures.

International leaders have expressed condolences to the families of those killed and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Venezuela’s recovery. Humanitarian organizations are also preparing additional emergency assistance as relief efforts shift from immediate rescue operations toward long-term reconstruction and rehabilitation.
