The Joint Action Rehabilitation Committee (JARC) and Joint Action Committee (JAC) have withdrawn their indefinite blockade of national highways and railway lines in Tripura after receiving assurances from the state government. Road and rail services resumed, markets reopened, and normal life gradually returned across affected regions.
The Joint Action Rehabilitation Committee (JARC) and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Wednesday withdrew their indefinite blockade of national highways and railway lines across Tripura after receiving assurances from the state government regarding their long-pending demands.
The blockade, which had severely disrupted transportation and daily life in several parts of the state, was called off following multiple rounds of discussions between representatives of the organizations and government officials. The two committees had launched the agitation to press for the fulfillment of their seven-point charter of demands, seeking immediate attention and action from the authorities.
The indefinite strike had affected both road and rail connectivity, causing widespread inconvenience to commuters, traders, transport operators, and residents. National highways remained blocked at key locations, while railway services were disrupted, resulting in delays and difficulties for passengers travelling within and outside the state.
Following the government’s assurance that necessary steps would be taken to address the issues raised by the organizations, leaders of JARC and JAC announced the withdrawal of the agitation. The decision was welcomed by people across the state who had been facing hardships due to the prolonged disruption.
Soon after the announcement, movement of vehicles resumed on major highways, including routes passing through the Barmura region. Railway services also gradually returned to normal operations as authorities worked to clear affected sections and restore schedules. The reopening of transport links brought significant relief to thousands of commuters and businesses dependent on uninterrupted connectivity.
Markets, shops, and commercial establishments that had remained partially affected during the blockade reopened as normal activities resumed. Traders expressed optimism that the restoration of transportation would help stabilize the supply chain and prevent further shortages of essential commodities.
Speaking after the decision, leaders of JARC and JAC said they chose to withdraw the blockade in view of the positive response received from the government. However, they stressed that they would closely monitor the implementation of the assurances provided during the discussions.
“We have withdrawn the agitation following assurances from the government. We now expect the authorities to act on their commitments and resolve the issues raised by our organizations,” a committee leader stated.
The blockade had led to shortages of essential goods in certain areas and created challenges for patients, students, daily wage earners, and travelers. Public frustration had grown as transport disruptions continued for several days. Therefore, the decision to end the agitation was widely welcomed by residents and business communities alike.
Government officials reiterated their commitment to resolving the concerns through dialogue and constructive engagement. They emphasized that peaceful discussions remain the most effective approach to addressing public grievances and maintaining social harmony.
