Tripura receives approval from the Centre to establish its first Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital in Udaipur. The institution, approved by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, will begin admissions in 2026-27 with 60 seats, boosting Ayurvedic education, healthcare infrastructure, and medical opportunities in the state.

In a major development for medical education and traditional healthcare, Tripura has received approval from the Centre for the establishment of the state’s first Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur. The approval marks a significant milestone in strengthening healthcare infrastructure and promoting Ayurveda-based medical education in the northeastern state.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced the development through social media, stating that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) under the Ministry of AYUSH has accepted the state’s proposal for setting up the institution. The college will begin its academic journey from the 2026-27 session with an intake capacity of 60 students.

Describing the approval as a landmark achievement, Dr. Saha said the institution would play a crucial role in expanding higher medical education opportunities in Tripura while promoting India’s rich tradition of Ayurvedic medicine. He noted that the establishment of the college reflects the state’s commitment to improving healthcare services and creating new avenues for aspiring medical students.

The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continued support in enhancing healthcare facilities and medical education across the country. According to him, the Centre’s approval demonstrates the government’s focus on strengthening traditional systems of medicine and making quality healthcare more accessible.

Officials said the proposed Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital will not only provide professional education in Ayurveda but also contribute to research, clinical training, and the development of skilled healthcare professionals. The institution is expected to serve as a centre for academic excellence in traditional medicine and encourage scientific advancement in Ayurvedic treatment and practices.

The upcoming college is likely to generate new opportunities for students from Tripura and neighboring states who wish to pursue careers in Ayurveda. It is also expected to improve healthcare delivery by integrating traditional medical systems with modern healthcare services.

The approval of Tripura’s first Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital is being viewed as a transformative step in the state’s healthcare and education sectors. Once operational, the institution is expected to strengthen medical education, expand healthcare access, and contribute significantly to the growth of Ayurveda in the region.
