Tripura Police, in a joint operation with STF, CRPF, and BSF, arrested a suspected narcotics trafficker in Agartala and seized 41 kg of dry ganja, a pistol, and 15 rounds of live ammunition. Authorities have launched an investigation to trace the source of the contraband and illegal firearm.

In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking and illegal arms possession, Tripura Police, in coordination with multiple security agencies, arrested a youth and seized a large quantity of dry ganja, a firearm, and live ammunition during a joint operation conducted in the outskirts of Agartala.

The operation was carried out at a residence located in the Simma area under the jurisdiction of Sedhai police station following specific intelligence inputs regarding the alleged storage of narcotics and illegal weapons. Acting swiftly on the information, a joint team comprising personnel from Tripura Police, the Special Task Force (STF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Border Security Force (BSF) launched a coordinated raid at the premises.

During the search operation, security personnel recovered approximately 41 kilograms of dry ganja, one pistol, and 15 rounds of live ammunition concealed inside the house. The seized items were immediately taken into police custody for further legal proceedings and forensic examination.

The accused, identified as Uttam Deb, reportedly associated with the local ruling party leadership, was arrested on the spot. Police registered a case against him under relevant provisions related to narcotics trafficking and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Following his arrest, Deb was produced before a local court on Saturday.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Mohanpur, Ashish Dasgupta, who confirmed the successful recovery of the contraband and arms. Speaking to reporters, the SDPO stated that investigators are currently working to determine the origin of the seized ganja and the source of the illegal firearm.

Officials said the investigation remains ongoing, and further arrests cannot be ruled out as authorities examine possible links to a wider narcotics and arms trafficking network operating in the region.
