Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive in Agartala on Thursday amid heightened security and traffic restrictions. The city has completed preparations for his visit, including a heritage hotel foundation ceremony and border security review meetings. Authorities have issued advisories to ensure smooth movement during the high-profile visit.

Agartala is fully prepared to welcome Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is scheduled to arrive in the state capital on Thursday for a two-day visit marked by official engagements, infrastructure initiatives, and security reviews. The administration has completed extensive preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of the high-profile visit, while security agencies have intensified surveillance across key locations.

Ahead of the Union Home Minister’s arrival, authorities conducted a trial run of his motorcade route from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport to Pushpabanta Palace, the former Raj Bhavan, where he is expected to participate in the foundation stone laying ceremony and Bhumi Pujan for a proposed heritage hotel project. The event is being viewed as a significant step toward promoting tourism and preserving the historical importance of the iconic palace complex.

Amit Shah is expected to arrive in Agartala from Shillong after attending the 73rd plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC). Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is also likely to accompany the Union Home Minister from Shillong following the conclusion of the NEC meeting.

According to official sources, the second day of Shah’s visit will focus primarily on border security and infrastructure development. He is scheduled to visit a Border Security Force (BSF) installation at Lankamura along the Indo-Bangladesh international border in West Tripura district. During the visit, the Home Minister is expected to review the security situation along the international boundary and assess ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening border management.

A high-level meeting with senior BSF officials has also been planned, where issues related to border surveillance, security preparedness, and operational requirements are expected to be discussed. The visit comes at a time when border security remains a key priority for the central government, particularly in the northeastern region.

To facilitate the movement of the Union Home Minister and ensure public safety, the Traffic Police have issued a special advisory imposing temporary restrictions on several major roads. The restrictions will remain in force during the movement of Shah’s convoy and will affect various stretches connecting MBB Airport, BSF Frontier Headquarters at Salbagan, Lichu Bagan, Buddha Mandir, Bharat Ratna Club crossing, and Lankamura Border Outpost.

Emergency vehicles will be exempted from the restrictions. However, commuters have been advised to avoid the designated routes during the specified periods and use alternative roads suggested by the Traffic Police.

The alternative routes include Narayanpur–Narsingarh–Ramnagar–Gandhigram Bazar–Salbagan–Rubber Board–Chanmari; GB–Indranagar–Dhaleswar–Math Chowmuhani–Jogendranagar–Bypass; A.D. Nagar–Battala–Fire Service–IGM Chowmuhani–RMS Chowmuhani–Orient Chowmuhani–Rabindra Bhawan crossing–Lion’s Gate–Bodhjung Chowmuhani–Sachin Setu–Abhoynagar–G.B. Bazar; and A.D. Nagar–Battala–Fire Service–Ker Chowmuhani–Sankar Chowmuhani–Barjala–Maila Khola via Bharat Ratna Club to MBB Airport.
