Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has urged the Centre to introduce direct Agartala-Mumbai flight services to strengthen connectivity, boost trade, tourism, education, healthcare access, and investment opportunities. The proposed air link is expected to enhance regional integration and support Tripura’s socio-economic development and growth.

Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has once again urged the Central Government to introduce direct flight services between Agartala and Mumbai. The appeal highlights the growing need for seamless travel between the northeastern state and India’s financial capital.

In a letter addressed to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Chowdhury emphasized the strategic importance of Tripura in the Northeast and stressed the necessity of establishing stronger transportation links with major metropolitan cities across the country. According to the minister, direct air connectivity with Mumbai would greatly benefit residents of Tripura who regularly travel for business, healthcare, higher education, tourism, and employment opportunities.

At present, passengers traveling from Agartala to Mumbai are required to depend on connecting flights, often involving long transit times and increased travel expenses. This situation creates difficulties for students pursuing higher education, patients seeking specialized medical treatment, entrepreneurs engaged in business activities, and government officials undertaking official visits.

The minister noted that introducing a direct Agartala-Mumbai flight would significantly reduce travel time, improve convenience, and lower costs for passengers. Beyond individual benefits, he stated that the service would contribute to broader socio-economic growth by strengthening regional integration and enhancing Tripura’s accessibility to investors, tourists, and business communities.

Chowdhury further pointed out that Mumbai serves as one of India’s most important economic centers and acts as a gateway to numerous opportunities across sectors. Improved connectivity between Agartala and Mumbai could open new avenues for trade, commerce, tourism, and investment, thereby supporting Tripura’s long-term development goals.

The minister urged the Civil Aviation Ministry to either facilitate the launch of direct flight services or ensure seamless connectivity through improved scheduling arrangements under existing aviation policy frameworks. Such measures, he argued, would help bridge the connectivity gap currently faced by travelers from the state.

The appeal comes at a time when several northeastern states are seeking enhanced air connectivity with major Indian cities to stimulate economic activity and attract greater investment. Improved transportation infrastructure is increasingly being viewed as a key driver of growth and regional development in the Northeast.

Local stakeholders, including business groups, tourism operators, students, and frequent travelers, have welcomed the minister’s initiative. Many have expressed optimism that the Centre will respond positively to the request and take swift action to establish a direct Agartala-Mumbai air route.
