Emphasizing timely implementation, accountability, and infrastructure growth, he called for collaborative efforts from NFDB, NABARD, Tripura University, and Fisheries College to strengthen the state’s fisheries sector.

Tripura Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das on Tuesday chaired the 2nd Board Meeting of the Tripura Fisheries Development Board at the Civil Secretariat, where he conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing programmes and developmental initiatives aimed at strengthening the fisheries sector across the state.

The meeting was held in the Minister’s office chamber and was attended by senior officials and representatives from several key institutions, including the Secretary and Director of the Fisheries Department, the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Fisheries College Lembucherra, Tripura University, and NABARD. The presence of these organizations reflected the government’s emphasis on adopting a collaborative and research-driven approach to modernizing the fisheries sector.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the progress of various projects currently being implemented under the Fisheries Department. Minister Das reviewed the status of approved schemes and assessed the pace of execution of ongoing works. Stressing the importance of accountability and efficiency, he directed all concerned officials and stakeholders to ensure the timely completion of assigned projects and the effective implementation of development programmes.

Addressing the participants, the Minister highlighted the crucial role played by the fisheries sector in Tripura’s rural economy. He noted that fisheries not only contribute significantly to food production and nutritional security but also generate employment and livelihood opportunities for thousands of families across the state. The sector, he said, has immense potential to promote entrepreneurship and enhance rural incomes.

Minister Das emphasized that infrastructure development, technological advancement, and improved productivity remain central to the state’s fisheries growth strategy. He instructed officials to identify and address bottlenecks that may be delaying project execution and to work in coordination with all partner institutions for achieving desired outcomes.

The participation of NABARD, NFDB, Fisheries College Lembucherra, and Tripura University further underscored the importance of integrating financial assistance, scientific research, technical expertise, and capacity-building initiatives into fisheries development efforts. Discussions also focused on strengthening institutional cooperation to ensure sustainable growth of the sector.

Speaking after the meeting, Minister Das stated that a comprehensive review of ongoing programmes had been undertaken and all stakeholders had been advised to work towards the timely completion of projects for the overall development of fisheries in Tripura.
