Hot and humid weather conditions are expected to persist across five districts of Tripura until June 4, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meteorologists attribute the rise in temperature to increasing humidity and hot winds from Bangladesh, while rainfall activity is likely to intensify across the state from June 5.

Residents of several parts of Tripura are likely to experience continued hot and humid weather conditions for the next two days, with meteorologists predicting a possible increase in rainfall activity across the state from June 5.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the districts of Khowai, West Tripura, Gomati, South Tripura and Sepahijala are currently witnessing uncomfortable weather conditions marked by rising temperatures and high humidity levels. Scientists have indicated that these conditions are expected to persist until June 4.

Speaking to media persons, IMD Tripura Centre Scientist Dr. Partha Roy explained the factors contributing to the prevailing weather pattern. He stated that increasing moisture levels in the atmosphere and the inflow of hot winds from neighboring Bangladesh are the primary reasons behind the rise in temperature across the state.

“First of all, the humidity in the air is rising, and secondly, hot winds are entering Tripura from Bangladesh. Due to these two reasons, the temperature is increasing. According to the latest weather forecast, similar conditions are expected to continue till June 4,” Dr. Roy said.

The prolonged spell of hot and humid weather has caused discomfort among residents, especially during daytime hours. High humidity levels often make temperatures feel warmer than they actually are, leading to increased heat stress and discomfort.

However, weather experts have offered some relief in their latest forecast. Dr. Roy informed that rainfall activity is likely to intensify from June 5, bringing showers to several parts of the state.

“It is expected that from June 5, rainfall will be witnessed in many locations across Tripura,” he added.

On the progress of the southwest monsoon, Dr. Roy said meteorologists are closely monitoring its movement. He noted that the monsoon is expected to reach Kerala around June 4, after which its advancement toward the northeastern region, including Tripura, will be observed carefully.

The anticipated rainfall is expected to provide temporary relief from the prevailing heat and humidity while also signaling the gradual approach of the monsoon season in the region. Local authorities have advised residents to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during the ongoing spell of hot weather.
