Tripura Pradesh Congress and Youth Congress have raised serious concerns over the state’s education and employment sectors, citing the NITI Aayog 2026 report. The opposition alleged rising school dropouts, teacher shortages, unemployment, exam irregularities, and unfulfilled government promises, demanding immediate corrective measures to safeguard students and youth.
The Tripura Pradesh Congress and Youth Congress on Monday launched a strong attack on the state government, alleging serious failures in the education and employment sectors and demanding immediate corrective measures. Citing findings from the NITI Aayog 2026 report, party leaders claimed that the state’s youth and students are facing growing uncertainty due to inadequate educational infrastructure, rising dropout rates, teacher shortages, and increasing unemployment.
Addressing a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan in Agartala, Congress leaders highlighted what they described as the deteriorating condition of education in Tripura. Congress spokesperson Partha Acharya accused the government of neglecting the needs of students and failing to fulfill promises made under the Vidyajyoti scheme.
According to Acharya, the state government has failed to ensure quality education while continuing to collect fees that, he alleged, violate provisions of the Right to Education Act, 2009. He claimed that education is gradually becoming inaccessible to economically weaker sections of society. Referring to the NITI Aayog report, he said that increasing dropout rates and inadequate educational facilities reflect a worrying trend that requires urgent attention.
The Congress leader also criticized the government’s recruitment policies, alleging that a large number of teaching positions remain vacant despite growing demand for qualified educators. He argued that the state’s vision of becoming an “education hub” is being undermined by what he termed a push toward privatization rather than strengthening public education.
Acharya further expressed concern over recurring examination-related controversies across the country, including question paper leaks and technical glitches affecting examinations such as NEET, SSC-GD, CUET, UPSC, and CBSE assessments. He called for strict accountability and stronger measures to ensure transparency and fairness in the examination system. According to him, such irregularities negatively impact the future prospects of millions of students.
Meanwhile, Tripura Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha focused on the issue of unemployment, describing it as one of the most pressing challenges facing the state’s youth. He claimed that Tripura’s participation in national apprenticeship programmes remains extremely low, reflecting a lack of industrial development and employment opportunities.
Saha alleged that despite repeated promises regarding industrial growth and job creation, the expected investments and employment opportunities have not materialized. He stated that government employment continues to be the primary hope for many young people, yet recruitment processes remain slow and inadequate.
Highlighting the education sector, Saha claimed that nearly 15,000 teachers have retired over the past seven to eight years, but a substantial number of vacancies remain unfilled. He also pointed out that thousands of candidates who successfully qualified through Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) examinations are still waiting for recruitment opportunities.
The Youth Congress leader said that many qualified candidates have been awaiting appointment letters for years despite assurances from the government that recruitment is an ongoing process. He argued that prolonged delays have created frustration and uncertainty among educated unemployed youth across the state.
The Congress and Youth Congress leaders warned that unless immediate action is taken to stop alleged fee collection irregularities in Vidyajyoti schools, fill vacant teaching positions, strengthen educational infrastructure, and create employment opportunities, Tripura could face deeper educational and economic challenges in the coming years.

They reiterated their call for urgent intervention to address the concerns raised in the interest of Tripura’s future generation.
