Four members of a family who had previously converted to Christianity returned to Hinduism through a purification ceremony conducted at the Chanpur Kali Temple in North Tripura district on Sunday, according to organizers associated with the event.

The religious ceremony took place at around 2 PM at the temple premises, where traditional Vedic rituals and purification rites were performed to formally welcome the family back into the Hindu faith.

According to organizers, Dilip Das, a resident of the Nadiyapur-Shanicharra area, along with three members of his family, had earlier embraced Christianity after leaving Hinduism. The family later decided to renounce Christianity and return to their original faith, leading to the organization of the purification ceremony at the temple.

The event was attended by several representatives of socio-religious organizations and local community leaders. Among those present were Arpita Chakraborty, a member of the Hindu Milan Mandir Central Committee; Nirupam Gupta, president of the North Tripura division of the Hindu Rakshi Dal; organization spokesperson Pannalal Nath; and Jaylalthong Tripura, district vice-president of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). Local social worker Dilip Tanti also attended the function.

During the ceremony, religious rituals were performed in accordance with Hindu traditions. Organizers stated that the purpose of the event was to facilitate the family’s return to Hinduism through established religious practices and customs.

Speaking on the occasion, the attending guests emphasized that the family’s decision was made entirely of their own free will. They stated that the move was based on personal belief and individual choice, and that the ceremony respected the constitutional principles of religious freedom and freedom of conscience.
