Residents of Mog Para in West Charakbai staged a massive road blockade after a three-day power outage and years of irregular electricity supply. Protesters demanded immediate transformer replacement, accusing the electricity department of negligence during the Eid holiday crisis.
Frustration among residents of Mog Para in West Charakbai erupted into a major protest on Thursday as locals blocked a key road demanding restoration of electricity services after suffering a prolonged power outage. The agitation followed three consecutive days without power, adding to years of recurring electricity disruptions allegedly caused by faulty transformers in the area.
The protest created severe traffic disruption along the important Baikhora-Muhuripur road, with commuters stranded for hours as demonstrators refused to clear the route until authorities assured immediate action. Villagers alleged that despite repeated complaints and appeals, the electricity department failed to address the long-standing issue.
According to local residents, the transformer serving the locality has remained unreliable for years, frequently causing blackouts and voltage fluctuations. Protesters claimed that officials cited unpaid electricity bills by some consumers as the reason for delayed maintenance and repair work. However, residents strongly rejected the justification, arguing that many families regularly pay their bills and should not suffer because of defaulters.
The demonstration saw active participation from women and elderly residents, who highlighted the growing hardship caused by the blackout. Apart from the lack of electricity, the area also faced a severe drinking water crisis since water pumps could not operate without power. Residents stated that daily life had become extremely difficult, especially during the ongoing Eid holiday period.
Anger intensified as government offices remained closed for the holiday, and no officials reportedly arrived at the protest site even after several hours of road obstruction. Protesters demanded the immediate installation of a new transformer and a permanent solution to the recurring electricity problem.

Local residents warned that stronger protests could follow if authorities continue to ignore their grievances. The incident has once again highlighted infrastructure challenges and public dissatisfaction over irregular power supply in several rural areas of the region.
