Security along Tripura’s Unakoti international border has been intensified after a high-level inspection by District Magistrate Megha Jain and Superintendent of Police Sudhambika R. Officials reviewed fencing, increased surveillance, and engaged with border villagers to strengthen anti-smuggling and anti-infiltration measures in sensitive areas.
Security arrangements along the international border in Tripura’s Unakoti district have been significantly strengthened following a high-level inspection conducted by District Magistrate Megha Jain and Superintendent of Police Sudhambika R. The move comes amid growing concerns over infiltration, smuggling, and other cross-border activities in vulnerable areas bordering Bangladesh.
The senior officials visited several sensitive stretches and Border Outposts (BOPs) across the district to assess the prevailing security situation and evaluate the condition of border infrastructure. During the inspection, they closely examined the barbed-wire fencing, patrol routes, and surveillance systems deployed in strategically important locations.
Officials said the inspection was part of an intensified effort by the district administration and security agencies to ensure stronger vigilance along the international border. The visit also aimed to identify infrastructural gaps and strengthen coordination between law enforcement agencies operating in the region.
As part of the field review, the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police interacted with residents of border villages. Local villagers shared concerns regarding illegal infiltration, cattle smuggling, and suspicious movement in areas located close to the international boundary. Many residents also appealed for enhanced night patrolling and better security arrangements to ensure the safety of border communities.
According to police sources, surveillance in sensitive pockets has already been intensified. Security personnel have increased patrolling frequency, while strict monitoring measures are being implemented to detect and prevent any unlawful activities. Authorities stated that advanced vigilance mechanisms and coordinated operations are being used to keep a close watch on vulnerable routes frequently targeted by smugglers and infiltrators.
Officials emphasized that maintaining peace, stability, and security in border areas remains a top administrative priority. They also highlighted the importance of community participation in strengthening border security, urging villagers to promptly report suspicious activities to the authorities.
