Tripura’s Anganwadi workers and helpers have announced a statewide agitation next month over unpaid allowances, pending gratuity arrears, and demands for job regularization. Leaders accused the state government of ignoring repeated appeals despite a High Court directive on retired workers’ dues.

Frustration among Anganwadi workers and helpers across Tripura has intensified, with the Tripura Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association announcing plans for a statewide agitation next month. The move comes amid growing anger over unpaid allowances, pending gratuity arrears, and the absence of job regularization measures.

The announcement was made following a meeting held on Thursday at the Student Health Home in Agartala. Representatives from 15 sectors across the state participated in the discussion and expressed strong dissatisfaction with what they termed as the government’s continued indifference towards their long-standing demands.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, association leaders stated that repeated appeals and memorandums submitted to the authorities have failed to produce any concrete response. According to the workers, allowances for the past two months are yet to be released, creating severe financial hardship for thousands of Anganwadi staff and helpers working at the grassroots level.

The association also raised concerns regarding gratuity payments for retired employees. Leaders claimed that despite directions from the Tripura High Court, gratuity dues remain unpaid, leaving many retired workers struggling financially after years of service.

Another major demand highlighted during the meeting was the regularization of jobs. Workers argued that the absence of permanent employment status has created uncertainty and insecurity among Anganwadi staff across the state. They urged the government to take immediate steps to ensure stable employment and better service conditions.

Association members warned that if their demands continue to be ignored, the agitation scheduled for next month could become larger and more intense. Leaders stated that Anganwadi workers play a crucial role in implementing welfare and child development programs, and neglecting their issues could affect essential services at the grassroots level.

The proposed statewide stir is expected to put additional pressure on the state government as workers prepare for coordinated protests in different districts of Tripura.
