A viral sting video by Tripura content creator Biswajit Das exposed open drug peddling in Agartala, prompting Chief Minister Manik Saha to order immediate police action. The investigation has intensified around key hotspots linked to narcotics trafficking and substance abuse.

An undercover video exposing alleged drug peddling activities in different parts of Agartala has triggered widespread public concern and prompted immediate administrative action in Tripura. The 11-minute-long video, uploaded by Tripura-based content creator Biswajit Das, popularly known by his channel name “Prank Zone,” has rapidly gone viral across social media platforms and generated intense discussion over the growing narcotics problem in the state capital.

The video, which was uploaded within the last 24 hours, attracted massive viewership and eventually reached Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who confirmed that police had already started conducting raids at the locations highlighted in the footage.

Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, the Chief Minister stated that he had personally watched the video and directed the concerned authorities to take strict action against those involved in illegal drug activities.

Biswajit Das, widely recognised in Tripura for producing humorous and comic-themed digital content, surprised viewers this time by shifting his focus toward a serious social issue. Known for appearing in unusual disguises and comic situations in his videos, the creator adopted a completely different approach for this investigative-style content.

To carry out the sting operation, he disguised himself as a rickshaw puller and used heavy makeup to convincingly portray a drug addict. According to his account in the video, suspected drug peddlers approached him voluntarily at locations allegedly known for narcotics trade.

“As I reached the spots that are infamous for such activities, the drug peddlers approached me voluntarily. They offered me small vials filled with addictive substances at a price of Rs 80,” Biswajit stated during the video presentation.

The video also included audio clips of conversations between the content creator and alleged peddlers. The recordings appeared to show how easily narcotic substances could allegedly be purchased in broad daylight in some parts of the city.

According to police sources, the small containers shown in the video are commonly referred to locally as “Kouta.” Investigators and forensic department sources stated that such vials generally contain adulterated forms of brown sugar mixed with inexpensive substances to increase quantity and reduce cost.

Forensic officials familiar with previous seizures reportedly explained that narcotics are often diluted using untreated powders, including talcum powder and antacid substances, before being sold to users. The mixture is allegedly consumed by addicts through injection, creating severe health risks in addition to narcotics dependency.

The video specifically identified the Radhanagar bridge area and the North Gate passage connecting Laxmi Narayan Bari Road with the North Gate section of the royal palace as locations where drug peddlers allegedly operate openly. Several scenes also showed groups of individuals gathered beneath the Radhanagar bridge, allegedly engaging in substance abuse activities.

The footage immediately drew strong reactions from residents, social media users, and civil society members, many of whom praised the content creator for highlighting a serious issue affecting the city. Several viewers described the video as a wake-up call for both authorities and the public.

At a time when social media platforms are often criticised for promoting meaningless or low-quality content, many users appreciated the effort to bring attention to a growing social concern. Public discussions intensified online as viewers demanded stronger anti-drug operations and better monitoring in vulnerable urban areas.

Following the widespread circulation of the video, police reportedly initiated raids at the locations highlighted in the footage. Though officials have not yet released detailed information regarding arrests or seizures, sources indicated that law enforcement agencies have begun verification and surveillance operations in the identified areas.

Later, Biswajit Das clarified the purpose behind the video through a social media post. He stated that the intention was not to target any individual but to responsibly present a social issue before the public.

“As a creator and YouTuber, I have simply presented before the people what I witnessed, out of my sense of responsibility. Millions of people watch my content, and from that position, I made a small effort to bring an important social issue into the public domain. I have no other intention beyond this,” he wrote.

He further expressed confidence that both journalism and the administration would fulfil their responsibilities appropriately in addressing the issue.

The incident has once again brought the issue of drug abuse and illegal narcotics circulation into public focus in Tripura, particularly in urban areas where addiction among youths has increasingly become a matter of concern. The viral sting operation has now added pressure on enforcement agencies to intensify anti-drug measures and ensure stricter monitoring of vulnerable hotspots across Agartala.
