Four accused were arrested in Agartala’s sensational kidnapping case after a dramatic abduction near the court complex. Police suspect notorious criminal “Battery Bishu” as mastermind while raids continue to arrest remaining suspects and recover the vehicle used in the operation.
A major breakthrough has been achieved in the sensational kidnapping case that triggered panic across Agartala after police arrested four persons allegedly linked to the daring abduction carried out near the city court complex.
The accused were produced before a court on Monday as investigators sought police remand to continue interrogation and uncover the complete conspiracy behind the crime.
Addressing a press conference at West Agartala Police Station, Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Debaprasad Roy said that police acted swiftly immediately after the incident and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to trace the culprits involved in the kidnapping operation. The SIT is being headed by Officer-in-Charge of West Police Station, Rana Chatterjee.
According to the police, the kidnapping took place in a dramatic manner from in front of the court complex, one of the busiest and most crowded areas in the state capital. The shocking incident created widespread concern among residents and raised serious questions regarding public safety in high-security zones of the city.
Police had earlier arrested three accused identified as Rabi Mia, Jakir Hossain, and Iqbal Hossain. Later, another accused was detained in connection with the case. However, investigators have not disclosed his identity, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation.
Officials stated that all four arrested persons are residents of Sepahijala district. However, police refrained from revealing the exact locality under Bishalgarh subdivision from where the accused belong.
During the investigation, police reportedly found that the abduction was executed by a group consisting of six to seven individuals. The kidnappers allegedly used a white Bolero vehicle and a scooter to carry out the operation smoothly before fleeing the area.
Investigators have already recovered the scooter believed to have been used during the crime. However, the Bolero vehicle used in the kidnapping is still missing, and intensive efforts are underway to trace it.
Police teams have launched sustained raids in different locations to arrest the remaining accused involved in the case. Officials said several leads are currently being verified, and more arrests are expected soon as the investigation progresses.
Meanwhile, police suspect that the mastermind behind the entire operation could be a notorious criminal popularly known as “Battery Bishu” from Bishalgarh. Acting on intelligence inputs, police recently conducted a raid at his residence in the North Brajapur area under Bishalgarh subdivision. However, the accused reportedly managed to escape before the police team arrived.
Investigators believe the kidnapping may have been carefully planned in advance, considering the manner in which the operation was executed in a crowded public area without immediately attracting attention.
Police officials said efforts are continuing to apprehend all absconding accused and expose the full network involved in the sensational crime. Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against everyone connected to the kidnapping case.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over organized criminal activities in and around Agartala, prompting demands for stronger surveillance and tighter security arrangements in sensitive public locations across the city.
