Senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh secured bail from Gomati District and Session Court in Tripura in a 2021 case linked to an alleged objectionable speech delivered during a public meeting in Agartala.

Senior leader of the All India Trinamool Congress and newly elected West Bengal MLA Kunal Ghosh was granted bail by the Gomati District and Session Court in Tripura on Monday in connection with a case registered in 2021.

The case relates to a public meeting addressed by Ghosh in Agartala on October 31, 2021. According to the complainant, a portion of his speech during the gathering allegedly hurt religious sentiments, leading to the filing of a police case against him.

After the court hearing, Ghosh briefly interacted with media persons outside the courtroom and confirmed that the court had accepted his bail plea. He stated that a case had been registered against him and that the court granted bail after hearing the petition filed by his legal team.

However, the senior TMC leader avoided commenting on the specific allegations and charges framed against him during the ongoing legal proceedings.

Later, Ghosh’s advocate provided further details regarding the matter. The lawyer said police had conducted an investigation following the complaint and subsequently submitted a charge sheet before the court. The trial process in the case had already begun before the bail application was moved.

The development comes at a politically significant time for the Trinamool Congress as the party continues its efforts to strengthen its presence in Tripura and other northeastern states. Legal proceedings in the case are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
