PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend Himanta Biswa Sarma’s swearing-in ceremony in Assam today as the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance begins its new term with strong security, large public participation, and renewed development promises.

A new chapter in Assam’s political landscape is set to begin on Tuesday as Himanta Biswa Sarma prepares to take oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and several senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara, Guwahati, where extensive preparations have been completed ahead of the high-profile political event. Thousands of party workers, supporters, and leaders from across Assam are expected to attend the ceremony, making it one of the largest political gatherings in the state this year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Guwahati on Monday night to participate in the ceremony. He landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Borjhar and was welcomed by Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Bharatiya Janata Party president Dilip Saikia, and senior government officials.

Ahead of the ceremony, Himanta Biswa Sarma personally reviewed preparations at the venue and expressed confidence about the new government’s future agenda. Speaking to reporters, Sarma said the government would officially assume office at 11 a.m. on May 12 and would immediately begin work on fulfilling electoral commitments and development priorities promised during the Assembly election campaign.

According to Sarma, several senior National Democratic Alliance leaders are expected to attend the event. Besides Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Nabin, and Chief Ministers from various National Democratic Alliance-ruled states are likely to remain present during the oath-taking ceremony.

Authorities have implemented elaborate security arrangements across Guwahati due to the presence of the Prime Minister and other senior political leaders. Multi-layered security deployment, traffic diversions, barricades, and strict access control measures have been introduced around the Khanapara area. Senior police officials monitored preparedness throughout Monday to ensure smooth conduct of the ceremony without disruption.

The administration has also increased surveillance in and around key locations, including the airport, major roads, and the swearing-in venue. Emergency services, traffic management teams, and additional police personnel have been deployed to manage the expected crowd movement during the event.

Party leaders stated that thousands of Bharatiya Janata Party booth-level workers and supporters from different districts of Assam are travelling to Guwahati to witness the swearing-in ceremony. The event is being projected by the party as a celebration of the decisive electoral mandate secured by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance in the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections.

The alliance’s convincing victory paved the way for Himanta Biswa Sarma to continue as Chief Minister for another term. Political observers believe the renewed mandate reflects strong public support for the government’s focus on infrastructure development, welfare schemes, law and order, and regional growth initiatives during its previous tenure.

Sarma also announced that the first Cabinet meeting of the new government would be held shortly after the swearing-in ceremony. Key administrative decisions and policy priorities are expected to be discussed during the meeting as the government begins its second term in office.
