Antony Varghese’s pan-Indian Malayalam action thriller ‘Kattalan’ is reportedly targeting a May 28 theatrical release. Directed by Paul George and backed by Cubes Entertainments, the film features Rajisha Vijayan, Sunil, and Ravi Basrur in a high-voltage cinematic venture.
Speculation surrounding the release of the much-awaited Malayalam action thriller Kattalan has intensified after reports emerged that the film could hit theatres on May 28 this year. Although the makers are yet to officially confirm the date, social media activity linked to the project has fuelled widespread anticipation among cinema fans.
Directed by Paul George, Kattalan features actor Antony Varghese, popularly known as Pepe, in the lead role. The pan-Indian project has already generated strong interest due to its scale, cast lineup, and action-packed premise.
Rumours about the film’s release date gained momentum after an assistant film director shared a poster on Instagram mentioning May 28 as the theatrical release date. Actor Anson Paul also reposted the same poster on his social media account, strengthening assumptions that the makers may indeed be preparing for a late-May release.
Despite the growing buzz, the production house has remained silent on the matter and has not yet issued an official announcement confirming the release schedule.
Earlier this year, the makers had announced that filming for Kattalan had officially wrapped up. Interestingly, while the production team had initially targeted a May 14 release, the later announcement only mentioned the month of May without specifying a date, leading to further speculation about a revised release plan.
The film has continued to attract attention for several reasons, including a major musical development. The makers had surprised fans by bringing acclaimed music director Ravi Basrur on board the project. The announcement came after the production house had earlier revealed that composer Ajaneesh Loknath would handle the music for the film. The sudden inclusion of Ravi Basrur, best known for his work in blockbuster action dramas, significantly raised expectations surrounding the film’s soundtrack and background score.
Backed by producer Shareef Muhammed under the banner of Cubes Entertainments, Kattalan is being promoted as a large-scale pan-Indian action thriller. The production house is widely recognised for producing the blockbuster Marco, and industry observers believe Kattalan could become another major commercial venture.
Apart from Antony Varghese, the film stars Rajisha Vijayan in a lead role. The supporting cast includes rapper and actor Baby Jean, Telugu actor Sunil, actor Kabir Duhan Singh, veteran Malayalam actors Jagadeesh and Siddique in important roles.
The makers had also previously welcomed actors Parth Tiwari and Anson Paul to the project. Another notable addition to the cast is Shon Joy, who earned attention for his performance in Alappuzha Gymkhana (2025) and is considered one of the promising emerging talents in Malayalam cinema.
The story of Kattalan has been jointly written by Paul George, Joby Varghese, and Jero Jacob. Industry insiders suggest that the screenplay combines intense action, betrayal, power struggles, and emotionally charged storytelling to create a gritty cinematic experience designed for audiences across India.
Technical aspects of the film have also drawn attention. Action choreography has been handled by Sharief, while costumes are designed by Dhanya Balakrishnan. Cinematography is by Renadive, and editing duties are handled by Shameer Muhammed.

Last year, the production house earned appreciation online after paying tribute to the stunt performers involved in the film. The team had shared behind-the-scenes footage showing a dangerous vehicle stunt sequence and praised the courage and dedication of stunt artists who make such visually intense scenes possible.
With its star-studded cast, ambitious scale, and mounting release speculation, Kattalan has rapidly become one of the most discussed upcoming Malayalam action films of the year. Fans are now eagerly awaiting an official confirmation regarding its theatrical release date.
