Political tensions rise in Tripura’s Jirania subdivision as CPI(M) leader Jitendra Chaudhury urges Minister Sushanta Chowdhury to take decisive action against political violence following an alleged attack on senior Left leader Tapan Das’s residence.

Fresh concerns over political unrest surfaced in Tripura’s Jirania subdivision after Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) state Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury appealed to Minister Sushanta Chowdhury to play an active role in preventing further incidents of violence in the region.

The appeal came on Saturday after Chaudhury visited the residence of senior Left leader and CITU state committee member Tapan Das in Jirania. The residence was allegedly vandalised by miscreants during a late-night attack, triggering sharp political reactions and renewed accusations over deteriorating law and order in the subdivision.

During the visit, Chaudhury inspected the damaged portions of the house and interacted with family members, including the elderly mother of Tapan Das. He strongly condemned the incident and described the attack as unacceptable in a democratic society. According to the Opposition Leader, such acts of violence create fear among ordinary citizens and damage the democratic environment of the state.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, Chaudhury said Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who also represents the area as the local MLA, had already visited the affected family soon after the incident. He stated that the minister had expressed regret over the attack and reportedly assured the family that such incidents would not be repeated in the future.

Chaudhury remarked that if the minister sincerely implements the assurances given to the people, it would greatly benefit residents of the subdivision. He further said that Sushanta Chowdhury possesses the political influence and administrative capability to play a decisive role in curbing political violence in Jirania if genuine efforts are made.

The CPI(M) leader also emphasized the need for all political parties to maintain peace and democratic values, warning that repeated incidents of violence could further intensify political tensions in the state. He urged the administration to identify those responsible for the alleged attack and ensure strict legal action to prevent similar occurrences.

CITU General Secretary Shankar Prasad Dutta accompanied Chaudhury during the visit and also condemned the attack on the residence of the Left leader. He described the incident as deeply concerning and called for immediate measures to guarantee the safety and security of political workers in the area.
