Authorities seized 4,000 Yaba tablets worth nearly Rs 3 lakh near the Indo-Bangla border in Srimantapur during a routine patrol. Sonamura police and BSF launched a detailed investigation into the suspected cross-border drug smuggling operation.

A large quantity of narcotic tablets was recovered during a routine border surveillance operation near Srimantapur under Sonamura subdivision, raising fresh concerns over cross-border drug trafficking activities along the India-Bangladesh frontier.

According to police officials, the recovery took place near a culvert during a patrol conducted in coordination with personnel stationed at the Border Security Force outpost in Srimantapur. During the search operation, security personnel noticed a suspicious packet wrapped with cellotape abandoned near the border area. Upon inspection, the packet was found to contain approximately 4,000 Yaba tablets weighing nearly 400 grams.

Officials estimated the black market value of the seized narcotics between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh. Preliminary findings suggest that the contraband may have been stored for illegal transportation across the international border. The seizure is being viewed as a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb narcotics smuggling in the region.

Police officer Tapas Das stated that a detailed investigation has already begun to identify those involved in the attempted trafficking operation. He said authorities are collecting evidence and examining possible links connected to organized smuggling networks operating along the border areas.

Security agencies suspect that drug traffickers are increasingly attempting to use remote stretches near the international border for transporting illegal substances. Following the latest recovery, surveillance and patrolling activities in vulnerable zones are expected to be intensified further.

Officials also confirmed that legal proceedings will be initiated against all individuals found connected to the case. Investigators are currently examining local intelligence inputs and other evidence to trace the origin and intended destination of the seized Yaba tablets.
