Agartala’s new 50-bed Civil Hospital nears opening as Mayor Dipak Majumder reviews final preparations, promising accessible healthcare, modern facilities, extended OPD services, and reduced pressure on major city hospitals for thousands of residents.

Healthcare services in Agartala are expected to receive a major improvement with the upcoming opening of the newly constructed Civil Hospital near Jackson Gate. The facility, designed as a modern 50-bed hospital, is now in the final phase of preparation and is likely to begin serving residents soon.

On Wednesday, Mayor Dipak Majumder visited the hospital to review the progress of the project and inspect the infrastructure being developed for public healthcare services. During the inspection, he stated that the Agartala Municipal Corporation is committed to opening the hospital for citizens at the earliest possible time.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, the Mayor said the hospital has been planned to provide accessible and efficient healthcare facilities to people living in and around the city. He added that the project reflects the civic body’s efforts to strengthen medical services and reduce the increasing pressure on existing government hospitals.

The new Civil Hospital has been specially designed to support major healthcare institutions such as Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital and IGM Hospital, both of which currently handle a heavy flow of patients every day. Officials believe the additional facility will significantly improve patient management and reduce overcrowding in emergency and outpatient departments.

According to hospital authorities, the institution will include multiple outpatient departments covering important medical specialties. A minor operation theatre is also being prepared for small surgical procedures and emergency treatments. The hospital is expected to operate from 8 AM to 8 PM, offering extended healthcare access for working families and patients requiring flexible consultation hours.

The building has been equipped with modern infrastructure and patient-friendly amenities, including lift facilities and improved accessibility measures. Officials said the management model has been inspired by successful municipal-run hospitals operating in cities such as Mumbai, where civic authorities directly oversee healthcare operations.

During the inspection, the Mayor was accompanied by local corporator Ratua Dutta, Additional Commissioner Mihir Ghosh, and senior hospital officials. The delegation reviewed the ongoing preparations and discussed the remaining work required before the hospital becomes fully operational.
