Kumarghat faces LPG cylinder shortage as delayed deliveries disrupt households, forcing a shift to induction cooktops. Rising demand for electric appliances highlights changing consumer behavior, while increased electricity usage raises concerns among residents coping with the ongoing crisis.

Households across Kumarghat are grappling with an ongoing shortage of LPG cylinders, a situation that has disrupted daily routines and forced residents to adopt alternative cooking methods. The supply crunch has not only created inconvenience for consumers but has also triggered a noticeable shift in local market trends, with electric cooking appliances rapidly gaining popularity.

Residents report that delays in LPG cylinder deliveries have become increasingly common in recent weeks. Booking cycles have been extended, and long queues outside gas agencies have become a regular sight. Many consumers say they are struggling to manage their daily cooking needs due to the uncertainty surrounding cylinder availability.

The shortage has compelled households to explore other options, particularly induction cooktops. Local traders confirm a sharp surge in demand for electric cooking appliances as people seek immediate and reliable solutions. “The demand for induction cooktops has increased significantly after the gas shortage began. Earlier, we would sell one unit in a month, but now multiple units are being sold every day,” said a local appliance dealer.

Another trader highlighted that the reduced availability of LPG cylinders has left consumers with little choice but to shift towards electric alternatives. He noted that induction cooktops, once considered a secondary option, are now becoming a primary cooking tool in many homes. This shift is also reflected in market patterns, where sales of traditional gas stoves have declined while electric appliances are witnessing a steady rise.

Local residents acknowledge that while induction cooktops offer a convenient alternative, they come with their own challenges. Increased dependence on electricity has led to higher power consumption, raising concerns about rising utility bills. Some households have expressed worry over the financial burden of increased electricity usage, especially in areas where power tariffs are already high.

Despite these concerns, many consumers believe that switching to electric cooking is currently the only viable option. “We don’t have a choice. Without regular LPG supply, we must rely on electricity to cook our meals,” said a resident.

The ongoing shortage has also highlighted the vulnerability of supply chains in smaller towns, where disruptions can have an immediate impact on daily life. While authorities have yet to provide a clear timeline for restoring normal LPG supply, residents remain hopeful that the situation will improve soon.

Until then, Kumarghat continues to adapt, with electric cooktops becoming an essential part of kitchens, marking a significant shift in consumer behavior driven by necessity rather than choice.
