RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat stresses unity in diversity while inaugurating Devi Chinmayi Soundarya Temple in Tripura’s Mohanpur, warning against global forces creating internal conflict and highlighting education, spirituality, and cultural heritage as pillars of national strength.

A message of unity and cultural consciousness echoed across Mohanpur in Tripura as a newly built temple dedicated to Devi Chinmayi Soundarya was inaugurated in a ceremony that blended spirituality, philosophy, and socio-cultural reflection. The event brought together prominent leaders and spiritual figures, while also highlighting concerns about global influences and internal cohesion in India.

Mohan Bhagwat, the Sarsanghchalak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, addressed the gathering on Tuesday and emphasized that India’s diversity should be viewed as a celebration of unity rather than a source of division. Speaking at the inauguration of the Devi Chinmayi Soundarya Temple in Mohanpur under West Tripura district, he raised concerns about what he described as “selfish global powers” attempting to instigate internal discord within the country.

According to Bhagwat, such forces perceive India’s rise as a challenge to their dominance, and therefore seek to weaken its social fabric. Without naming specific actors, he urged citizens to remain vigilant and aware of attempts to create conflict. He suggested that a closer observation of societal developments would reveal these patterns, calling for a collective effort to safeguard national unity.

Highlighting India’s long-standing traditions, Bhagwat noted that diversity in language, customs, food habits, and religious beliefs has always been intrinsic to the nation’s identity. He stressed that these differences are not points of conflict but rather expressions of a deeper unity that binds the country together. He warned that attempts are being made to distort this understanding and create divisions among people.

The RSS chief further stated that society must reconnect with its cultural roots and ancient wisdom. He called for increased awareness about India’s philosophical foundations, which emphasize unity despite diversity. In his view, strengthening this awareness is essential to counter divisive narratives and maintain social harmony.

On the subject of language, Bhagwat observed that the evolution of dialects into distinct languages is a natural process in a civilization as old as India. He pointed out that several dialects of Hindi have developed into independent languages over time, and this linguistic growth should not be seen as a cause for concern.

Calling for courage and resilience, Bhagwat urged society to remain fearless in the face of challenges. He emphasized the importance of adhering to truth and preparing collectively to face difficult circumstances. His remarks underscored the need for both moral strength and unity in navigating contemporary issues.

The RSS chief also reflected on the broader purpose of education, arguing that it should extend beyond economic utility. He stated that knowledge should not be limited to acquiring skills for livelihood, but should also help individuals explore their inner selves and understand the world more deeply. Education focused solely on survival, he said, is incomplete.

He further highlighted the historical role of temples in Indian society, describing them as centers of social interaction, education, and even economic activity. According to him, such institutions have traditionally contributed to the strength and cohesion of communities. He also acknowledged the role of religious organizations, particularly in southern India, in undertaking various service-oriented activities.

In a philosophical context, Bhagwat spoke about the interconnected nature of existence, suggesting that both science and traditional Indian thought recognize this principle. He referred to the idea that consciousness may not be localized but universal, and that scientific inquiry continues to explore concepts long embedded in ancient traditions.

He also stressed the importance of balancing strength with devotion, stating that power without spiritual grounding can lead to disorder. In his view, the integration of “Shakti” (strength) and “Bhakti” (devotion) is essential for maintaining balance in both individual and societal life.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Manik Saha, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Jishnu Dev Varma, and Rajmata Bibhu Kumari Devi. The presence of these leaders underscored the significance of the occasion.

Organized by Chinmaya Seva Trust Agartala, a subsidiary of Chinmaya Mission International, the event coincided with the observance of Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti. The RSS chief participated in the Prana Pratishtha and Kumbha Abhishekam rituals, which marked the consecration of the deity.

The temple, located near a newly established school at Fakiramura in Mohanpur, features a 15-foot statue carved from a single granite stone. Priests from Nepal were invited to conduct the rituals, adding an international dimension to the spiritual ceremony.

Taking to social media platform X, Chief Minister Manik Saha shared details of the event, describing the temple complex as a serene and inspiring environment. He noted that the site includes 27 pillars engraved with verses from Adi Shankaracharya’s Soundarya Lahari, along with teachings that encourage reflection on the interconnectedness of existence.

Saha expressed confidence that the temple would evolve into a major center for spirituality, education, and cultural inspiration in the region. He highlighted its potential to contribute to both intellectual and moral development, while also promoting tourism and cultural engagement.

The inauguration of the Devi Chinmayi Soundarya Temple thus emerged not only as a religious event but also as a platform for broader discussions on unity, education, and cultural identity. Bhagwat’s remarks, combined with the symbolic significance of the temple, reflected an attempt to reinforce the idea that diversity, when understood correctly, can serve as a foundation for national strength rather than division.
