Tipra Motha Party wins 24 seats in TTAADC elections, securing a landslide victory in Tripura. BJP reduced to four seats while Congress and CPI(M) fail to score, highlighting a major political shift in the tribal council governance.
A decisive electoral outcome has reshaped the political landscape of Tripura’s autonomous tribal council, as the Tipra Motha Party secured a commanding majority in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections, winning 24 out of 28 seats. The results, declared on Friday, underline the party’s growing dominance in tribal politics and reaffirm its control over one of the most strategically important institutions in the state.
The Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win only four seats, marking a significant drop from its previous performance. Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian National Congress failed to secure a single seat, continuing their electoral struggles in the region.
The victory marks a major milestone for the Tipra Motha Party, which has now strengthened its foothold in the council after its initial breakthrough in 2021. Political analysts suggest that back-to-back wins have helped the party consolidate its support base among indigenous communities, positioning it as a central force in Tripura’s evolving political dynamics.
Founded under the leadership of Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Barma, the party has consistently emphasized indigenous rights and regional identity. Following the announcement of results, Pradyot extended congratulations to the winning candidates while urging restraint and responsibility among supporters. He cautioned against any form of post-poll unrest, stating that violence would ultimately harm the very communities the party seeks to represent.
“Elections bring both victory and defeat, but they should never divide our people,” he said, calling for unity across political lines. His appeal highlighted the importance of maintaining peace among all communities, regardless of their political affiliations, and stressed that the real success of the mandate lies in ensuring long-term development and harmony.
The elections, held on April 12, witnessed an impressive voter turnout of over 83 percent, reflecting strong public engagement in the democratic process. A total of 173 candidates contested across 28 constituencies, making it a highly competitive electoral exercise. Counting of votes began early Friday morning under strict security arrangements at 17 centers across the state.
Authorities implemented comprehensive measures, including the deployment of central and state forces, to ensure a smooth counting process. Verification of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips preceded the tallying of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), adhering to standard electoral protocols.
The TTAADC, constituted in 1985 under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, plays a critical role in administering tribal areas in Tripura. The council comprises 28 elected members and two nominated by the state government, overseeing nearly two-thirds of the state’s geographical area. Despite its limited legislative powers, it remains a cornerstone of governance and socio-economic development for tribal communities, who constitute nearly one-third of Tripura’s population.
Senior party leaders, including incumbent Chairman Jagadish Debbarma and Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia, retained their seats, further solidifying the party’s leadership structure within the council. Their re-election is expected to provide continuity in governance and policy implementation.

The elections also saw multiple political players in the fray, including the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura and several independent candidates. However, the overwhelming mandate in favor of Tipra Motha indicates a clear preference among voters for stability and focused leadership.
Observers believe that the outcome could have broader implications for Tripura’s political future, particularly in shaping alliances and strategies ahead of upcoming elections. With the council governing a significant portion of the state’s territory, its decisions carry substantial weight in regional development and administrative planning.
As celebrations continue among supporters, the emphasis from party leadership remains firmly on unity, peace, and progress. The message resonates strongly in a politically sensitive region where electoral outcomes often influence social cohesion.
