North Tripura DM Chandni Chandran honors winners of the “Ink Lagao, Selfie Lo” contest in Dharmanagar, promoting youth voter participation and democratic engagement during the 56 Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency bye-election through innovative awareness initiatives.
In a step toward enhancing youth participation in the democratic process, the District Magistrate and Collector of North Tripura, Chandni Chandran, felicitated the top five winners of the “Ink Lagao, Selfie Lo” selfie contest. The initiative was organized in connection with the bye-election of the 56 Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency.
The felicitation ceremony, held in Dharmanagar, highlighted the administration’s innovative approach to encouraging electoral participation among young voters. The contest invited voters, particularly first-time participants, to click selfies after casting their votes and share them as a mark of civic pride and responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, District Magistrate Chandran emphasized the importance of youth engagement in strengthening democracy. She stated that the primary objective of the contest was to inspire young citizens to actively participate in elections and understand the value of their vote. “The idea was to make voting a celebration and encourage young voters to proudly showcase their participation in the democratic process,” she said.
The five winners of the contest were Nilanjana Bhattacharjee, Tamashree Sen, Sneha Choudhury, Amrita Sinha, and Nabajit Das. Each winner was recognized for their enthusiastic participation and creative expression, reflecting the spirit of civic responsibility among the youth.
Officials noted that such initiatives play a crucial role in bridging the gap between young voters and the electoral system. By combining social media trends with civic duties, the “Ink Lagao, Selfie Lo” campaign successfully captured the attention of younger demographics, making the act of voting more relatable and engaging.
The bye-election in the 56 Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency provided an opportunity for the district administration to experiment with outreach strategies aimed at increasing voter turnout. With the growing influence of digital platforms, campaigns like selfie contests are emerging as effective tools to connect with tech-savvy youth.
Moreover, the initiative aligns with broader efforts by election authorities across India to promote voter awareness and participation. Encouraging young voters is particularly important, as they represent a significant portion of the electorate and play a decisive role in shaping the future of governance.
The felicitation ceremony also served as a reminder of the importance of inclusive and participatory democracy. By recognizing the efforts of young voters, the administration reinforced the message that every vote counts and that active civic engagement is essential for a vibrant democratic system.
