Sathyaraj joins Prashanth in Ranjan – The Advocate, a powerful Tamil courtroom drama remake of Court – State Vs A Nobody, exploring legal injustice, emotional storytelling, and social issues with music by GV Prakash and direction by Thiagarajan.
Veteran actor Sathyaraj has officially joined the cast of the upcoming courtroom drama Ranjan – The Advocate, starring Prashanth in the lead role. The film, directed by Thiagarajan, has already generated strong anticipation among audiences for its intense narrative and socially relevant theme.
The makers made the announcement on the occasion of Tamil New Year, unveiling a special poster to welcome Sathyaraj to the project. The production house expressed enthusiasm about his addition, highlighting the film as a “painful love, wholesome and rooted court drama,” indicating a blend of emotional depth and legal intensity.
Ranjan – The Advocate is the official Tamil remake of the critically acclaimed Telugu film Court – State Vs A Nobody, originally presented by Nani. The original film received widespread appreciation for its bold take on the misuse of legal provisions, particularly the POCSO Act, and its emotional storytelling. It also sparked conversations around gender bias within the Indian legal framework.
The Tamil adaptation aims to retain the core essence of the original while presenting it with a fresh perspective. Prashanth takes on the titular role of Ranjan, a lawyer navigating a complex and emotionally charged case. Sathyaraj’s inclusion is expected to add gravitas to the narrative, given his reputation for powerful performances in socially driven films.
The film boasts a strong technical team. Music is composed by two-time National Award-winning composer G. V. Prakash Kumar, while cinematography is handled by Ravi Yadav. Production design is led by Senthil Raghavan, promising a realistic and immersive courtroom setting.
In addition to Prashanth and Sathyaraj, the film features a talented ensemble cast including R. K. Suresh, Mime Gopi, Subramaniam Shiva, Priyanka, Athira, Mohan Raman, Hari Kathiresan, and Santhosh Prabhakar in pivotal roles.
The original Telugu film, directed by Ram Jagadish, was inspired by real-life cases involving alleged misuse of legal provisions. Jagadish had revealed that the story was developed after extensive research into multiple case files, particularly those related to sensitive legal matters. His work brought attention to the complexities and potential loopholes within the justice system, making the film both thought-provoking and controversial.
By adapting such a powerful narrative, Ranjan – The Advocate is expected to strike a chord with audiences, blending courtroom drama with a poignant love story. The film seeks to highlight the emotional and societal impact of legal battles, while also questioning systemic biases.
