NPP leaders led by James Sangma arrive in Agartala to campaign for Tipra Motha in crucial TTAADC elections, backing Pradyot Kishore Debbarman and promoting the “One North East” vision to strengthen regional political unity.

A high-level delegation from the National People’s Party (NPP), led by senior leader and former Meghalaya minister James Sangma, arrived in Agartala on Wednesday to actively campaign for the Tipra Motha Party ahead of the crucial TTAADC elections.

The delegation’s visit underscores growing political collaboration in the Northeast, particularly in support of Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, the founder and chief of Tipra Motha. The elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) are widely viewed as a decisive political contest that could shape the future trajectory of tribal politics in the state.

Speaking to media representatives shortly after landing at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, James Sangma confirmed that the delegation includes key leaders such as MLAs Sanjay A Sangma and Ian Botham Sangma, along with MDC Stevie M Marak from the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.

“We have come here to extend our full moral support to Tipra Motha and its candidates. This election holds immense importance, and we believe in strengthening regional voices,” Sangma stated.

He further elaborated on the broader political vision guiding this collaboration, referring to the concept of “One North East.” According to Sangma, this idea aims to build a unified political and ideological platform among regional parties to address common issues and aspirations across the northeastern states.

“The ‘One North East’ concept is an evolving platform that brings together like-minded political forces. Both NPP and Tipra Motha play central roles in shaping this vision. While the formal structure is still in progress, our immediate focus is to support Tipra Motha in these critical elections,” he added.

Political observers see this development as a significant move toward greater regional consolidation. The alliance signals a shift from fragmented local politics to a more coordinated approach among northeastern parties, potentially influencing policy direction and governance in tribal areas.

The presence of senior NPP leaders in Agartala has already energized the campaign environment. Their participation is expected to boost the morale of Tipra Motha candidates and supporters, particularly in tribal-dominated constituencies where the party has strong grassroots backing.

As campaigning intensifies, the TTAADC elections are shaping up to be more than just a local contest—they are emerging as a testing ground for broader regional unity and political realignment in the Northeast.
