Amit Shah credits PM Modi for elevating Assam’s culture globally, highlights welfare schemes, tea garden land rights, education reforms, and strong stance against infiltration, while urging support for BJP ahead of upcoming elections in Assam.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has successfully taken Assam’s rich cultural heritage to the global stage. Addressing a large public rally in Hailakandi district, Shah highlighted a series of initiatives undertaken by the central government to promote the state’s identity while also announcing welfare measures aimed at strengthening grassroots communities.

Speaking to a packed gathering, Shah emphasized that under Modi’s leadership, Assam’s traditional symbols have gained international recognition. He specifically mentioned the Assamese ‘gamocha’, a cultural emblem that has now found a place in global forums. Drawing a political contrast, Shah made a veiled reference to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that Gandhi had once declined to wear the gamocha during a Republic Day event when it was offered to him.

Shah further underlined the government’s efforts to honor Assam’s historical legacy. He pointed to the installation of a grand statue of legendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan in New Delhi, stating that it ensures global recognition of his bravery and contribution to Indian history.

A major highlight of Shah’s speech was the emphasis on land rights for tea garden workers, a long-standing issue in Assam. He said that the government has already granted land ownership pattas to nearly 3.5 lakh families across 707 tea estates. “In the first phase, the process has been completed in 106 gardens across 20 districts,” Shah noted, adding that the initiative aims to empower historically marginalized tea garden communities.

On policy matters, Shah defended key decisions taken by the Modi government, including the abolition of Triple Talaq, which he said was opposed by the Congress. He also highlighted education reforms in Assam, mentioning that 402 madrasas have been converted into primary schools to ensure modern and inclusive education for children.

Pitching strongly for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Shah argued that it would promote equality by prohibiting practices such as multiple marriages. He urged voters to support the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming elections to enable the rollout of UCC in the state.

Focusing on welfare schemes, Shah made several promises aimed at farmers, women, and economically weaker sections. He announced that annual financial assistance to farmers would be increased from ₹6,000 to ₹11,000. Additionally, subsidies for tractor purchases will be provided to 10,000 farmers, while crops like paddy, maize, and mustard will be procured at Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Shah also pledged free education for underprivileged children from kindergarten to postgraduate level. Other promises included free rice distribution, subsidized essential commodities, and a monthly Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of ₹3,000 for women if the BJP returns to power in Assam.

Earlier in the day, Shah addressed another massive rally in Patharkandi in Sribhumi district, where he launched a sharp attack on the Congress party. He asserted that only the BJP can protect Assam from illegal infiltration and preserve its cultural identity. According to Shah, infiltrators have already been identified and would be “removed one by one” if the party is re-elected.

He further alleged that illegal migrants are depriving local youth, poor families, and tea garden workers of jobs, ration benefits, and wages. “With BJP-NDA governments in Assam, West Bengal, and Tripura, infiltration will be completely stopped,” Shah declared, reinforcing the party’s strong stance on border security and demographic protection.

The rally, marked by strong political messaging and development promises, signals an intensified campaign push by the BJP as Assam gears up for upcoming elections. Shah’s speech combined cultural pride, welfare assurances, and national security concerns, aiming to consolidate voter support across key demographics in the state.
