Jammu to host inaugural International Half Marathon with 4,000 runners

Jammu is all set to welcome around 4 thousand runners for its inaugural International Half Marathon tomorrow. All arrangements are in place to ensure a seamless experience for both national and international participants. The event, featuring a substantial prize pool, represents a major development in the region’s commitment to sports tourism.  The first-ever Jammu Half Marathon will feature 21 km, 10 km and 5 km race categories and a total prize pool of Rs. 1.33 Crore will be distributed among the winners.
 
In an effort to promote tourism and encourage public participation in fitness activities, the Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department will be organizing the Jammu Half Marathon to promote tourism and healthy lifestyles. About 3 thousand 663 participants, including 91 international runners, have already registered for these events. More than 800 participants are coming from outside Jammu and Kashmir. On the spot registrations are also being facilitated.
 
The marathon will start at sunrise from Maulana Azad Stadium and will feature three race categories, including Half Marathon (21 km), 10 km Fitness Run, and 5 km Fun Run. Separate prize categories have been earmarked for men and women, along with special prizes for local participants.
 
A total prize pool of Rs. 1.33 Crore will be distributed among the winners. In the Half Marathon the prize money includes Rs. 15 lakh for first place, Rs. 10 lakh for second, Rs. 7 lakh for third, Rs. 3 lakh for fourth, and Rs. 2 lakh for fifth position.
 
In the Fitness Run, winners will receive Rs. 5 lakh, Rs. 4 lakh, Rs. 3 lakh, Rs. 2 lakh, and Rs. 1 lakh respectively. In the Fun Run, prizes range from Rs. 1 lakh for first place to Rs 15 thousand for the fifth position.
 
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had unveiled the official logo, medal and merchandise of the Jammu Marathon on December 15 last year, besides launching the event’s official website and opening registrations.
