Tripura Budget 2026–27 worth ₹34,212 crore presented by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy focuses on healthcare, education, tribal welfare, digital economy, infrastructure growth and employment generation under the vision of building a developed and inclusive Viksit Tripura.
Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Monday presented the State Budget for the financial year 2026–27, amounting to ₹34,212.31 crore, in the Tripura Legislative Assembly. The Budget estimates a deficit of ₹240.72 crore.
While presenting the Budget in the House, the Finance Minister informed that the total allocation reflects a 5.52 percent increase compared to the previous financial year. The government has fixed capital expenditure at ₹8,945.92 crore, marking a 13.19 percent rise over the estimated capital spending for 2025–26.
The Minister also announced that the government has proposed a Supplementary Grant of ₹4,676.81 crore. Importantly, the Budget does not introduce any new taxes, providing relief to citizens.
Major Sectoral Allocations
Significant allocations have been proposed across several key sectors to support social welfare, infrastructure development and economic growth.
- Health Sector:
An allocation of ₹2,441.50 crore has been proposed, which represents a 25.29 percent increase compared to the previous Budget. The government aims to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and services across the state. - Rural Development:
The Budget earmarks ₹4,094.57 crore for rural development initiatives, showing a 17.50 percent increase from last year’s allocation. - Agriculture and Allied Sector:
For agriculture and related activities, the government has proposed ₹1,985.61 crore, reflecting a 5.31 percent increase from the previous financial year. - Education Sector:
Education continues to receive a significant share of the Budget with an allocation of ₹6,439.56 crore, which is 4.43 percent higher than last year’s allocation.
Focus on “Viksit Tripura”
The Budget is designed around the vision of building a “Viksit Tripura” (Developed Tripura). Several new schemes and initiatives have been proposed, focusing on:
- Development of Janajati (tribal) communities
- Strengthening healthcare and education
- Employment generation
- Expansion of road infrastructure
- Promotion of industrial growth
- Welfare of farmers
The Budget was presented on the second day of the ongoing Budget Session, which was chaired by Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Paul.
During his speech, the Finance Minister also highlighted that Tripura has witnessed a significant decline in overall crime rates. He further announced a range of initiatives aimed at boosting the tourism sector in the state.
Emphasis on Inclusive Development
The Finance Minister emphasized that the Budget has been carefully crafted to ensure the overall welfare of all sections of society, including Janajati communities, minorities, and other marginalized groups.
Allocation for Janajati Welfare
For the financial year 2026–27, the state government will allocate ₹914.82 crore to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). This allocation is in addition to funds provided under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) and Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) meant for infrastructure development.
The total provision under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), including allocation to TTAADC, has been set at ₹7,542.06 crore. A substantial portion of this funding will be utilized in TTAADC areas, accounting for 39.39 percent of the state’s total development expenditure.
Proposals for Technical Education
To enhance skill development and technical training, the government has proposed:
- Establishment of a new Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Pecharthal
- Creation of a Drone School to provide professional training for drone pilot operators, enabling them to obtain licenses approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)
These initiatives aim to prepare youth for emerging technology-driven job markets.
Proposals for Medical Education
In order to strengthen medical education and healthcare services, the government has proposed several major initiatives:
- Establishment of an Ayurvedic Medical College in Gomati district
- Setting up a Homoeopathic Medical College at the Netaji Subhas State Homeopathy Hospital
Both institutions will initially offer 60 seats each and are expected to start from the next academic session.

Additionally, the government has proposed the creation of the Tripura University of Health Sciences to enhance higher education and research in the medical field.
IT Sector and Digital Infrastructure
The Budget places strong emphasis on building a robust digital ecosystem in the state. Key proposals include:
- Establishment of the Tripura IT & Data Ecosystem Zone (TIDEZ) at Chanmari, Agartala, aimed at attracting investments in IT, IT-enabled services (ITeS), and data centres.
- Launch of the “NAVCHETNA” initiative, which will promote technology-driven education in schools and institutions.
- Introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), coding, and automation through Innovation and Technology Laboratories in educational institutions.

The government also plans to introduce an AVGC-XR Policy (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality) to strengthen the Orange Economy and position Tripura as a hub for creative technology and digital content industries.
Other key digital initiatives include:
- Development of Agartala AI City, envisioned as a flagship digital infrastructure project featuring a state-of-the-art IT Park to promote AI, IT/ITeS, startups, innovation and employment generation.
- Establishment of a Cyber Security Operation Centre (CSOC) in Agartala to strengthen the state’s digital security ecosystem.
