Tripura marks the 112th birth anniversary of literary icon Adwaita Mallabarman with a felicitation ceremony in Kalyanpur, honoring meritorious students and celebrating the enduring legacy of the acclaimed novelist whose writings highlighted marginalized communities and social realities.

The 112th birth anniversary of celebrated novelist Adwaita Mallabarman was commemorated with dignity and enthusiasm in the northeastern state of Tripura, as the Department of Scheduled Caste Welfare organized a grand felicitation ceremony in Kalyanpur under Khowai district.

The commemorative event was held at the Lotus Community Hall in Kalyanpur, bringing together educators, local leaders, students, and literary enthusiasts to celebrate the life and contributions of the renowned writer whose work continues to inspire generations. Mallabarman, widely remembered for his powerful portrayal of marginalized communities, remains one of the most respected literary figures from the region.

As part of the celebration, twelve meritorious students from various educational institutions across Khowai district were honored for their academic achievements. The students received awards and recognition from dignitaries present at the ceremony, highlighting the government’s commitment to encouraging educational excellence among young learners.

The program also featured the distribution of prizes to winners of an essay competition organized to mark Mallabarman’s birth anniversary. The competition encouraged students to explore the literary legacy and social themes reflected in the author’s writings, particularly his depiction of the struggles, dignity, and aspirations of marginalized communities.

The ceremony was formally inaugurated by Pinaki Das Choudhury, local MLA and Chairman of the Tripura Scheduled Caste Development Corporation Ltd. In his address, he emphasized the importance of remembering literary figures like Mallabarman whose works shed light on social realities and inspire society to pursue equality and justice.

Several prominent personalities attended the program as distinguished guests. Among them were Aparna Singh Roy, Somen Ghosh, Rupak Sarkar, and noted litterateur and retired teacher Manoranjan Ghosh. Officials of the department, including Uttam Das Baishnab, were also present during the program.

Speakers at the event reflected on the enduring relevance of Mallabarman’s literary works, particularly his most celebrated novel Titash Ekti Nadir Naam, which vividly portrayed the life and struggles of riverine communities. They stressed that his writings remain an important reminder of social realities and the need for compassion, equality, and inclusive development.

The speakers also urged young students to draw inspiration from Mallabarman’s ideals and to use literature and education as tools for social transformation. They highlighted how literature has the power to bridge social divides and promote awareness about the challenges faced by marginalized sections of society.

Although the program began slightly later than scheduled, the enthusiastic participation of attendees ensured the success of the event. The ceremony commenced with a welcome address by Uttam Das Baishnab on behalf of the Department of Scheduled Caste Welfare. Subsequent speeches by Pinaki Das Choudhury, Aparna Singh Roy, Rupak Sarkar, and Manoranjan Ghosh focused on Mallabarman’s lasting legacy and his contribution to Indian literature.
