The TIPRA Motha will fight the ensuing assembly elections alone. The party’s chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman in his social media platforms said that within two or three days the list of the TIPRA Motha candidates would be announced.
The decision to fight the polls alone came as the alliance by Debbarman came a cropper . No political party was ready to accept the Greater Tipraland demand of the TIPRA Motha and declined to give any assurance.
Debbarman who remained all along intransigent on his demand for ‘written assurance’ from the political parties was then left with no other option but to contest the elections on his own.
In the meantime, there were also serious resentments that surfaced in the TIPRA Motha leadership following Debbarman’s intransigence on ‘written assurance’ for the ‘Greater Tipraland’. Many senior and experienced TIPRA Motha leaders felt that keeping in mind the ground reality and matured political strategy in mind the party Chairman should have been flexible as it was quite obvious that no national party would accept such a demand.
They felt that Debbarman guiding the party with personal and individual decisions as the ‘Bubagra’ without taking into consideration other leaders’ opinion. In fact no other leader was given any space in the party and it was being run wholly with his personal emotions.
That there are serious differences of opinions was also reflected in Debbarman’s own statement where he said, “’Some of our party workers are of the opinion that I should accept the proposals of other parties for alliance. But let me clarify that I cannot accept the offers as it will amount to cheating to Tiprasas in Tripura . I shall never compromise with our constitutional demand,”.
Then he added : Many leaders are ready to compromise to become an MLA, but Bubagra is not ready to compromise.”
