Violence erupts in Tripura’s Khowai as BJP youth leader Rupak Ghosh is allegedly assaulted by TIPRA Motha supporters. Chief Minister Manik Saha orders strict police action, condemns political intimidation ahead of crucial TTAADC elections.

Political tension has intensified in the northeastern state of Tripura after a youth activist affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha was brutally attacked at his residence in the Ramchandraghat area of Khowai. The victim, identified as Rupak Ghosh, allegedly came under assault from a large group of miscreants reportedly linked to TIPRA Motha.

According to local sources and eyewitness accounts, the attack took place early Thursday morning at around 8:30 AM at the residence of Rupak Ghosh in Ramchandraghat. The assailants, reportedly numbering over a hundred individuals, allegedly stormed the house and carried out a violent assault on the young political worker.

Family members present during the attack also suffered injuries. Rupak’s mother, Meena Ghosh, reportedly sustained mild injuries while attempting to protect her son from the attackers. Witnesses said the attackers arrived in a large group and began the assault without any prior provocation, creating panic in the neighborhood.

Local residents quickly alerted authorities, and police soon reached the spot to control the situation. Rupak Ghosh was later shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Sources from the hospital stated that he sustained multiple injuries but is currently under medical supervision.

Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party strongly condemned the incident and held the TIPRA Motha responsible for the attack. According to BJP leaders, the violence was allegedly aimed at disrupting the party’s preparations for the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.

Party leaders claimed that the BJP had been conducting an active campaign in the Ramchandraghat region ahead of the council polls. As part of the campaign, the party had organized several joining programs and outreach events that reportedly attracted large numbers of supporters from rival political groups.

A BJP leader familiar with the developments stated that many voters who were previously aligned with other parties had recently joined the BJP. He alleged that supporters from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and TIPRA Motha had switched allegiance to the BJP following the party’s intensified organizational efforts in the region.

“Due to our consistent organizational work in these areas, hundreds of people have joined the BJP. Naturally, this growth has unsettled some leaders from rival parties. We believe this violent attack was carried out to disrupt our campaign and intimidate our workers,” the BJP leader alleged.

Following the incident, BJP workers gathered at the local police station in Ramchandraghat and demanded immediate legal action against those responsible for the attack. Party members urged the administration to ensure safety for political workers and maintain law and order during the election period.

Meanwhile, the incident has drawn strong reactions from the state government. Speaking to the media in Agartala, Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the attack and assured that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators.

Responding to questions from journalists, Dr. Saha described the incident as an “outburst of frustration” and emphasized that the rule of law would prevail in the state. He stated that no individual or group involved in such acts of violence would be spared.

“This is simply an outburst of frustration. I want to make it clear that no one will be spared. Lawful action will be initiated against those responsible,” the Chief Minister said.

Although Dr. Saha did not directly name any political party, he criticized the forces behind the attack, accusing them of relying on intimidation and communal polarization instead of constructive political agendas.

“They know nothing other than fomenting communal sentiments and flexing muscle power. The rule of law will be firmly established, and the police will definitely act against the perpetrators,” he added.

Political observers say the incident highlights the growing tensions between rival parties in the tribal areas of Tripura ahead of the crucial TTAADC elections. These elections are considered politically significant as they influence governance and development policies in tribal-dominated regions of the state.

As police investigations continue, authorities are expected to identify and arrest those involved in the assault. Security arrangements are also likely to be strengthened in sensitive areas to prevent further political violence.

The attack on Rupak Ghosh has once again brought attention to the issue of political clashes in Tripura, raising concerns about safety, democratic competition, and law enforcement during election campaigns.
