Tripura Police arrest three women for brutally torturing a six-year-old girl in West Tripura over a theft suspicion. Case registered under BNS Act and Juvenile Justice Act as viral video sparks statewide outrage.
In a swift and decisive action, Tripura Police on Saturday arrested three women in connection with the brutal physical assault of a six-year-old girl in Paresh Colony under West Tripura district. The incident, which involved severe physical abuse of the minor, has triggered widespread public outrage after a video of the torture surfaced on social media and went viral.
According to senior police officials, the arrests were made following the registration of a case under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023, along with Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The accused women allegedly subjected the child to inhuman treatment after suspecting her of stealing Rs 20 from a neighbour’s house.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the three women tied the child’s hands and legs and inflicted severe physical torture earlier this week. The disturbing visuals circulating online showed the minor being beaten and humiliated, prompting immediate intervention by law enforcement agencies. Police officials confirmed that the video played a crucial role in expediting the investigation and arrest process.
The victim reportedly comes from an extremely vulnerable background. Police sources stated that the child’s mother had earlier eloped with another man, leaving the girl under the care of her father, who works as a daily wage labourer. Due to economic hardship and lack of family support, the child was living in a precarious environment, making her susceptible to abuse.
Taking serious cognisance of the matter, the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TCPCR) filed a formal complaint at the concerned police station, demanding strict legal action against the perpetrators. The Commission emphasised that acts of violence against children constitute grave human rights violations and must be dealt with firmly under the law.
Senior police officials stated that the arrested women are currently being interrogated to determine whether others were involved in the incident or if similar acts of abuse had occurred earlier. Authorities also confirmed that the victim has been provided medical assistance and counselling, and steps are being taken to ensure her safety and rehabilitation.
The three accused women have been identified as Dipali Banik (41), Kajali Sarkar (50), and Manti Biswas (35). They were produced before a local court in Agartala, where police sought their remand for further interrogation. The court proceedings are ongoing.

A police spokesperson reiterated that Tripura Police maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against children and vulnerable individuals. “Any act of cruelty against a child will be dealt with strictly as per law. We are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and preventing such incidents in the future,” the spokesperson said.
The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for community vigilance, child protection awareness, and prompt reporting of abuse. Authorities have urged citizens to report any form of violence against children to ensure timely intervention and justice.
