Tripura creates history as NSS officer Bhaskar Ghosh leads the Northeast NSS Contingent at Republic Day Parade Camp 2026, showcasing youth leadership, cultural pride, and national service on Kartavya Path, New Delhi.
Tripura has carved a proud chapter in the national narrative as Bhaskar Ghosh, a state award-winning National Service Scheme (NSS) Programme Officer from Gandacherra Higher Secondary School, led the Northeast NSS Contingent at the Republic Day Parade Camp (RDPC) 2026 in New Delhi. His leadership marked a rare and prestigious achievement for the state, highlighting Tripura’s growing contribution to national service and youth leadership.
The Northeast NSS Contingent consisted of 19 members, including 18 volunteers and their contingent leader. The team participated in the month-long Republic Day Parade Camp held from January 1 to January 31 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi. Representing the cultural diversity and disciplined ethos of the Northeast, the contingent took part in intensive training, national-level interactions, and ceremonial events.
The highlight of the camp was the Republic Day Parade on Kartavya Path, where the NSS volunteers marched alongside contingents from the Army, paramilitary forces, and other uniformed services. Their synchronized movements, discipline, and confidence drew appreciation from spectators and officials alike, earning nationwide admiration for the Northeast’s representation.
Tripura’s presence at the camp was further strengthened by the participation of Dwip Sutradhar from Ramthakur College and Sumi Roy from Sachin Debbarusan Memorial Government Music College. Both volunteers played key roles in cultural performances, showcasing Tripura’s artistic heritage and reinforcing the state’s identity on a national platform.
Bhaskar Ghosh’s leadership is considered historically significant. He became only the third officer from Tripura in the last 38 years to lead the Northeast NSS Contingent and the first to do so in the past 17 years. This milestone reflects not only individual excellence but also the steady growth of the NSS movement in Tripura.
Beyond the parade, the volunteers experienced rare opportunities to interact with the highest constitutional authorities of the country. The contingent met the President of India, the Vice President, the Prime Minister, and the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports. These interactions offered valuable insights into governance, national service, and leadership.
The team also performed traditional dances at Rashtrapati Bhavan and during the Prime Minister’s Rally, receiving widespread appreciation for their cultural expression and artistic discipline. Educational visits to major heritage sites such as Rajghat, the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Red Fort, and Qutub Minar further enriched the volunteers’ understanding of India’s history and legacy.

Upon returning to Guwahati, the contingent was accorded a warm reception and later met the Governor of Assam, who praised their dedication and discipline. Reflecting on the journey, Bhaskar Ghosh said the experience went far beyond ceremonial participation, emphasizing that it was about presenting the soul and spirit of the Northeast before the nation’s leadership. For the volunteers, he noted, the camp proved to be a truly life-changing experience.
