An e-rickshaw driver was killed in a tragic road accident near Udaipur while returning from Tripura Sundari temple at Matabari. The mishap occurred after the vehicle lost control, injuring a family travelling with the driver.
A tragic road accident claimed the life of an e-rickshaw driver on Sunday while he was returning from the famous Tripura Sundari temple at Matabari in Udaipur. The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over road safety on busy stretches connecting religious and urban centers in the state.
The deceased has been identified as Ratan Sarkar (40), a resident of Agartala. Sarkar was driving the e-rickshaw carrying Panchayat Secretary Biplab Bhattacharjee of the Matripalli area in Badharghat, along with his wife and two children. The family had visited the Tripura Sundari temple to offer prayers and was returning home when the mishap occurred.
According to local sources, the accident took place near the Chirarmill area along the Udaipur–Sonamura Chowmuhani road. While passing through the stretch, the e-rickshaw reportedly lost control and overturned on the roadside. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be officially confirmed, though preliminary accounts suggest possible loss of balance on the uneven road.
Hearing the sound of the crash, local residents rushed to the spot and immediately initiated rescue efforts. All the injured were pulled out from the overturned vehicle and shifted to Gomati District Hospital without delay.
Doctors at the hospital declared e-rickshaw driver Ratan Sarkar dead on arrival, hospital sources confirmed. The sudden death of the driver has left his family in shock and mourning.
The passengers, including Panchayat Secretary Biplab Bhattacharjee, his wife, and two children, sustained injuries in the accident. However, hospital authorities stated that their condition was stable, and they were later discharged after receiving necessary medical treatment.

The incident has sparked concern among locals, who pointed out the frequent accidents on the Udaipur–Sonamura road, especially during weekends when traffic increases due to religious visits. Residents demanded improved road maintenance, better traffic monitoring, and stricter safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident. Further details are awaited.
