Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday passed an instruction to the officials concerned for working on a mission mode to achieve the target of ensuring drinking water to every household by 2022.

While reviewing the Jal Jeevan Mission at Prajna Bhavan, Chowdhury asked every staff and official of the department to work with sincerity.

In the meeting, the works of all eight districts were reviewed thoroughly. Secretary Kiran Gitte, chief engineer of the department Rajib Debbarma and Director Rajib Majumder among others were present.

Chowdhury laid emphasize on completion of the projected works with stipulated time by maintaining the quality.

At the beginning, the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission in sub-divisional level was discussed. The minister was also apprised about the challenges and difficulties in implementing the project were also discussed. Chowdhury stressed on implementing the project in remote areas with special focus.

The DWS minister, according to a government press release, told the meeting that the officers from the state would be sent to Rajasthan, Sikkim and Haryana for inspecting the implementation of this project in such states so that they can get some experience.

He advised the engineers to work in coordination with the local MLAs, MDCs and other public representatives in their respective areas.

Taking part in the discussion, the Secretary said at least 30,000 connections need to be provided every month to achieve the target.

TSECL managing director M.S. Kele and representatives from the eight districts were present in the meeting.
