PM Modi says the Purvodaya vision is transforming Tripura and Northeast India through infrastructure growth, connectivity, peace, investment reforms, tribal welfare initiatives, sustainable agriculture, and inclusive development, marking a decisive shift toward progress and national integration.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that the government’s ambitious ‘Purvodaya’ vision, designed to accelerate development in eastern India, is also playing a decisive and transformative role in the growth and progress of the Northeastern states, including Tripura. His remarks came in a letter addressed to Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on the occasion of the state’s Statehood Day, highlighting the Centre’s long-term commitment to inclusive regional development.

In his message, the Prime Minister acknowledged that for several decades, the people of the Northeast, including Tripura, experienced a sense of physical, emotional, and economic distance from the national mainstream. This isolation, he noted, affected infrastructure development, investment flow, and employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.

“Our government received the opportunity to change this reality by bridging distances, strengthening emotional bonds, and striking a deeper chord with the people of this region,” the Prime Minister wrote, emphasizing that governance over the past several years has focused on integration through connectivity, trust, and sustained development.

PM Modi underlined that over the last eight years, double-engine governance—with the NDA government at the Centre and the BJP-led government in Tripura—has worked consistently toward the state’s transformation. He said these efforts align with the historic mandates given by the people of Tripura in the Assembly elections of 2018 and 2023, reflecting public confidence in development-oriented governance.

The Prime Minister noted that a wide range of development initiatives has significantly improved the Ease of Living for the people of Tripura. Special emphasis has been placed on strengthening both physical infrastructure, such as roads, airports, and power supply, and social infrastructure, including healthcare, education, and welfare delivery systems.

Several central government schemes, he said, have delivered tangible and measurable benefits across the state. Recently approved new components under the existing Special Development Packages are expected to have a particularly positive impact on Tripura, especially for tribal communities, by enhancing livelihood opportunities, access to services, and social inclusion.

Highlighting improved connectivity as a major catalyst for growth, PM Modi referred to the inauguration of the new integrated terminal building at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala in 2022. The upgraded airport infrastructure has significantly boosted air connectivity, promoted tourism, and facilitated trade and business activity, further integrating Tripura with national and international markets.

Powered by the aspirations and hard work of its people, Tripura has made notable economic progress in recent years, the Prime Minister said. He pointed out that the state’s economy has grown steadily, supported by reforms aimed at reducing compliance burdens and easing regulations. These measures, he noted, demonstrate the state government’s determination to attract private investment and generate new employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

PM Modi also praised Tripura’s farmers for setting an inspiring example in environmental consciousness and sustainable agriculture. He noted that Tripura is among the leading Northeastern states in the implementation of the PM-KUSUM scheme, which promotes solar-powered irrigation and renewable energy usage in farming.

“The increasing adoption of natural farming practices is equally commendable,” the Prime Minister wrote. He added that focused government support for weavers, mulberry growers, and pineapple farmers is strengthening rural livelihoods and laying a solid foundation for long-term, inclusive growth.

Reflecting on Tripura’s past challenges, PM Modi recalled that certain parts of the state were once affected by insurgency and unrest, which disrupted daily life and constrained the aspirations of the youth. He noted that the situation has changed dramatically over the years.

“Today, the people of Tripura have demonstrated remarkable courage and resolve, choosing peace over conflict and progress over uncertainty,” he said. According to the Prime Minister, the people have clearly rejected retrograde ideologies and placed their faith in governance that delivers development, stability, and opportunity.

Referring to his visit to Tripura in September 2025, PM Modi recalled offering prayers at the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Gomati district, where he also reviewed ongoing development works at the temple complex.

“May the blessings of Mata Tripura Sundari always guide the people of Tripura,” the Prime Minister wrote, adding that together, the Centre and the state will continue to work to realize the vision of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur and take Tripura to even greater heights.
