BJP leader Radhamala Debbarma accuses Tipra Motha Party of falsely claiming her defection, alleging political misrepresentation through misleading announcements, photos, and videos. BJP leaders demand accountability over misinformation in Tripura politics.

A political controversy erupted in Tripura on Tuesday after a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader accused the ruling ally, Tipra Motha Party, of falsely claiming that she had joined their party. The allegation has triggered sharp reactions within the BJP, with senior leaders calling the move a deliberate attempt to mislead the public through manipulated narratives and visuals.

The BJP leader at the center of the controversy, Radhamala Debbarma, categorically denied joining the Tipra Motha Party. She clarified that her presence at a public meeting organized by Tipra Motha was misrepresented as a formal defection. According to her, she attended the event solely to meet Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman and had no intention of switching political allegiance.

Explaining the circumstances, Debbarma stated that she was informed by Tipra Motha workers that Pradyot Kishore Debbarman was seeking a meeting with her. Despite political differences, she emphasized that Debbarman is a respected public figure. As the meeting venue was located very close to her residence, she decided to meet him as a gesture of courtesy. However, upon her arrival, Tipra Motha workers allegedly made public announcements claiming that she had formally joined the party.

“The announcements were made without my consent and completely distorted my intention,” Debbarma said, asserting that she remains committed to the BJP.

Addressing a press conference on the issue, BJP state General Secretary Bipin Debbarma strongly criticized the Tipra Motha leadership for what he described as a calculated act of political misrepresentation. He confirmed that Radhamala Debbarma attended the meeting at Demdum village but rejected claims that her presence signified a political switch.

“When a senior leader visits a location near your home, basic courtesy demands acknowledging them,” Bipin Debbarma said. “Our leader followed this social and political norm. However, Tipra Motha leader Dhirendra Debbarma deliberately twisted the narrative and projected her attendance as a party defection.”

He further pointed out that visual evidence contradicts Tipra Motha’s claims. In the circulated videos and photographs, Radhamala Debbarma is not seen holding the Tipra Motha party flag. Instead, party workers positioned themselves behind her with flags, allegedly to create a misleading visual impression for social media and news platforms.

The BJP has termed the incident an unethical political tactic and warned against spreading misinformation for short-term political gain. The development has intensified political tensions in Tripura, highlighting growing friction within the state’s ruling alliance and raising questions over political transparency ahead of future electoral contests.
