In the Men’s Hockey India League, SG Pipers secured their first win of the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Hyderabad Toofans at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astro Turf Stadium in Ranchi last night.
Tomas Domene starred for the Pipers, scoring both goals, including an early drag-flick in the 8th minute. Goalkeeper Tomas Santiago delivered a standout performance, making several crucial saves, including a penalty stroke in the final quarter.
Despite dominating possession and creating multiple chances, Hyderabad Toofans struggled to convert. Amandeep Lakra finally pulled one back with a drag-flick in the 41st minute, but Santiago’s heroics ensured the Pipers held on for the win.
In the second match of the day, HIL GC defeated Accord Tamil Nadu Dragons 4-2. Kane Russell netted a hat-trick, while Sam Ward added another goal. Blake Govers and Uttam Singh scored for the Dragons.
