Guwahati hosts the original FIFA World Cup Trophy at ACA Stadium as Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma promotes the state’s concert and sports economy, boosting tourism, youth engagement and Assam’s global sporting profile.

Guwahati is poised to witness a historic sporting and cultural moment with the arrival of the original FIFA World Cup Trophy, marking a significant milestone in Assam’s growing sports and entertainment landscape. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that the globally iconic trophy will be showcased at the ACA Stadium on Tuesday, accompanied by a high-profile Coke Studio Bharat concert.

Sharing the update on social media platform X, the Chief Minister described the event as another major achievement under the state government’s evolving “concert and sports economy” vision. He said the convergence of international sports symbolism and large-scale entertainment reflects Assam’s rising stature as a preferred destination for world-class events.

“Get ready to witness the original FIFA World Cup Trophy in Guwahati tomorrow at the ACA Stadium, along with electrifying performances at the Coke Studio Bharat concert. Another day, another win for our concert and sports economy plans,” Sarma wrote in his post.

The arrival of the FIFA World Cup Trophy places Guwahati alongside major metropolitan cities that regularly host globally recognised sporting showcases. For Assam, the event is being viewed not merely as a ceremonial display but as a strategic step in leveraging sports and entertainment for economic growth, tourism promotion, and youth engagement.

According to officials, the event is expected to draw thousands of visitors, including football fans, students, cultural enthusiasts and tourists from across the Northeast and beyond. The anticipated footfall is likely to provide a significant boost to the hospitality sector, transport services, local vendors, and small businesses operating in and around the city.

Chief Minister Sarma has consistently highlighted the economic and social benefits of hosting international sporting events and large-scale concerts. He has described such initiatives as catalysts for urban vibrancy, job creation and enhanced global visibility for Assam. The state government believes that high-impact events generate a multiplier effect across sectors, benefiting hotels, restaurants, taxi operators, event staff and informal workers.

In earlier statements, Sarma said the state’s “concert economy” policy aims to transform Guwahati into a hub for national and international events while simultaneously showcasing local culture, music and talent. By hosting globally branded events, the government hopes to create new opportunities for local artists, technicians and entrepreneurs linked to the creative economy.

Beyond economic gains, the Chief Minister has emphasised the social dimension of such initiatives. He has noted that sports and music events help channel youth energy in a positive direction, foster community pride and present Assam as a confident, aspirational state ready to engage with the world on equal footing.

The arrival of the FIFA World Cup Trophy is also being seen as a major morale booster for sports culture in the Northeast, a region where football enjoys deep-rooted popularity and passionate grassroots support. Sports administrators believe that exposure to iconic symbols of global football can inspire young players and strengthen the region’s sporting ecosystem.

Officials said the event reflects the Assam government’s broader effort to integrate sports, culture and economic planning into a single development framework. By combining a globally revered sports trophy with a high-profile music concert, the state is showcasing its growing capability to host complex, world-class programmes.

The trophy display in Guwahati is part of the FIFA Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola, an international initiative designed to build excitement ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The upcoming World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
