Body of missing teenager Dharmajit Chakma recovered from Dumboor Lake after six days of search. The tragic drowning incident near Narikel Kunja in Tripura highlights safety concerns at popular picnic spots and has left the Gandacherra region in mourning.

The six-day-long search for a missing teenager ended in tragedy on Friday morning with the recovery of the body of Dharmajit Chakma (17) from Dumboor Lake, near the Narikel Kunja area under Gandacherra subdivision. The incident has cast a deep shadow of grief across the region, leaving family members and local residents devastated.

Dharmajit, a resident of Bhakta Para village, had gone missing on January 4 while returning home by boat with his grandfather after selling jujube (kul) at the popular Narikel Kunja picnic spot. According to police and local sources, the teenager was reportedly suffering from epilepsy, which may have contributed to the tragic accident.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that Dharmajit suddenly fell ill or lost his balance while the boat was crossing the lake and slipped into the deep waters. His grandfather raised immediate cries for help, and nearby people attempted to respond, but the strong currents and depth of the lake made rescue efforts impossible.

Following the incident, the Fire and Emergency Services and the Gandacherra disaster response team launched an extensive search operation. The search was intensified the next day when a specialized team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arrived from Agartala. Divers, boats, and rescue equipment were deployed, and search efforts continued relentlessly for several days.

Despite continuous operations, the search yielded no results initially, leaving the family and the local community in a state of anxiety and despair. Hope slowly faded as each passing day brought no sign of the missing teenager.

The tragic breakthrough came at around 5 a.m. on Friday, when local residents noticed a body floating near the helipad ground adjacent to Narikel Kunja. The police were immediately informed and rushed to the location. The body was recovered from the lake and later identified as Dharmajit Chakma.

The recovery has plunged the Chakma family into deep mourning. Villagers from Narikel Kunja, Bhakta Para, and nearby areas gathered to express their condolences and support. Many described Dharmajit as a hardworking and respectful boy whose untimely death has left an irreplaceable void.

Police officials stated that preliminary findings suggest accidental drowning, and legal formalities were being completed. Authorities have once again urged visitors and locals to exercise caution while using boats in Dumboor Lake, especially during crowded picnic seasons.

The incident has renewed concerns over safety measures in popular tourist and picnic locations around Dumboor Lake, highlighting the need for better monitoring, emergency preparedness, and public awareness.
