Tripura sees a sharp decline in crime rates till Nov 2025 under CM Manik Saha’s leadership. Zero tolerance on drugs, political interference ends, and law enforcement improves significantly for safer communities.
Tripura has witnessed a remarkable decline in crime rates till November 2025 compared to 2023, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Saturday. Chairing a high-level law and order review meeting at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala with senior police officials, Saha emphasized that the BJP government will not tolerate any compromise on law and order in the state.
Holding the home portfolio, the Chief Minister highlighted the crucial role police stations play in effective governance, saying, “Service delivery begins at the police station level.” Tripura currently has 90 police stations and nine women police stations, and Saha stressed that past political interference affecting police discipline must end.
“I have never called any Officer-in-Charge (OC), nor do I interfere in police functioning,” he said, adding that police personnel must be respected, with the uniform seen as an ornament and symbol of responsibility.

Saha acknowledged that in earlier years, police officers were often identified by political affiliations, which he said must stop. “Officers will now be judged on performance alone,” he said. To ensure accountability, he holds fortnightly review meetings with Superintendents of Police (SPs) and District Magistrates (DMs) based on reports and feedback from the ground.
The Chief Minister instructed OCs to monitor FIR registrations daily and ensure they are accurately documented. He also emphasized the importance of counselling for police personnel, timely filing of charge sheets to avoid justice delays, and maintaining physical fitness among the force.
Significant improvements in crime statistics underline the government’s efforts. Crimes against the human body dropped from 1,385 cases in 2023 to 753 cases till November 2025. Property-related crimes also declined from 412 to 275 cases during the same period. Crimes against women decreased from 791 cases in 2023 to 627 in 2025 till November.
Regarding narcotics, Saha reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance stance on drug-related offenses, aligned with the directives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Drug cases under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been a focus, with stringent actions ongoing.
Overall crime cases fell sharply from 5,002 in 2023 to 3,386 in 2025 till November, a testament to effective policing and governance. Saha also highlighted vigilance over issues related to the Bangladesh border, communal elements, and touts, stressing no compromises would be made on maintaining law and order.
The Chief Minister expressed optimism, saying, “If everyone works together, we can build a new India and a new Tripura.” He urged police officers to act firmly, independently, and strictly as per the law to maintain peace and order.

The meeting was attended by top officials including Director General of Police Anurag, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, and other senior administrative and police officials.
In a media interaction after the meeting, Dr. Saha reiterated that the government will continue to keep politics out of policing. He recalled how political leaders once influenced police officers, which led to indiscipline. “That era is over. We want all police personnel to fulfill their duties diligently and serve society,” he said.
He also spoke on the importance of police discipline and professionalism. “The police uniform is a symbol of pride and responsibility. No officer should be identified by political color anymore; only their work will matter,” Saha stated.
To improve policing standards, Saha stressed daily checks on FIR registrations to ensure accuracy and promptness, along with providing counselling when needed. Physical fitness for police personnel was another key focus, urging daily exercise to maintain health and stamina.
