High Court of Tripura has taken suo moto PIL based on the report relating to the attacks on Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb’s ancestral home at Jamjuri in Udaipur. The High Court took serious note of the incident and asked the Home secretary of the state to file detailed report on the incident on January 10 next.
The attack and rampage allegedly by CPM supporters also unsettled New Delhi and BJP party high command as well as government officials asked for the reports.
The attack on Deb’s residence on the eve of a religious programme relating to his later father late Hirudhan Deb’s death anniversary -where several saints from out side the state were present- took an ominous turn for the communal colour that was being attached to the incident. It was alleged that the attack was led by a CPM cadre belonging to minority community in a pre- planned manner when Deb family was preparing for religious rituals. The attacks in which vehicles and two wheelers parked in front of Deb’s residence were damaged also sparked off a serious of retaliation from the BJP activists who set afire some shops last night itself.
Deb himself also pointed out that there could be a sinister design to create communal disturbance on the part of the opposition CPM before the assembly elections. He pointed out that earlier also after the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh during Durga Puja CPM here tried to trigger communal tension – in which they ultimately failed.
It was alleged that CPM MLA Ratan Bhowmik instigated the attack after a party meeting in the neighbourhood.
In the meantime, reports reaching here said there is still high-tension simmering underneath but adequate security arrangements were put in place. The religious programme on Wednesday passed off peacefully in which the MP and his wife Niti Deb, his mother and sisters as well as other relatives took part.
