Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury inspects the proposed Eco-Tourism, Adventure Tourism, and Water Park site in Jirania, aiming to boost tourism, generate employment, and develop Tripura as a global destination through a modern park modeled after Kolkata’s Nicco Park.

Tripura’s tourism development efforts gained momentum on Saturday as Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury conducted an on-site inspection at Sachindranagar Colony in Jirania, where the state government plans to develop a modern Eco-Tourism, Adventure Tourism, and Water Park. The ambitious project is expected to become one of the most attractive destinations in the region, significantly boosting tourism, generating employment, and promoting sustainable economic growth.

The minister was accompanied by Tourism Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, Tourism Director Prashant Badal Negi, respected social worker Ranjit Roy Choudhury, and local representatives. The senior team inspected the land earmarked for the project and evaluated the initial layout, natural surroundings, and infrastructural requirements. The visit marks a crucial step toward launching the project’s construction phase.

During the inspection, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury highlighted the strategic importance of strengthening tourism infrastructure in Tripura. He emphasized that tourism is not merely a recreational sector but a powerful driver of socio-economic progress. “Tourism plays a unique role in building an Atmanirbhar and developed Tripura,” he said. “To place Tripura’s tourism industry on the world map, create employment opportunities for unemployed youth, and make the state more appealing to both domestic and international tourists, this park will be constructed following the model of Kolkata’s Nicco Park.”

The minister added that the field visit was conducted with a clear target: ensuring that construction work begins at the earliest. He stressed that timely implementation of the project is essential for Tripura’s long-term tourism roadmap. Officials indicated that once completed, the facility would be capable of hosting families, students, adventure enthusiasts, and travelers seeking eco-friendly recreation.

A Vision for Eco-Friendly and Adventure-Based Tourism

The upcoming project is designed to integrate natural landscapes with adventure-based attractions. According to officials, the proposed park will include eco-friendly walking trails, botanical displays, water rides, adventure zones, and leisure facilities. By blending ecological conservation with modern tourism features, the state aims to create a sustainable yet dynamic recreational space.

The focus on eco-tourism aligns with Tripura’s broader strategy of preserving biodiversity while expanding its tourism horizons. The region’s lush greenery, scenic water bodies, and diverse flora and fauna offer a unique opportunity for such integrated development. The proposed park will tap into these natural assets to offer a refreshing escape for visitors while encouraging environmental awareness.

A Catalyst for Employment and Local Development

During the inspection, officials reiterated that the project reflects the government’s commitment to using tourism as a pillar of socio-economic transformation. The development is expected to create numerous direct and indirect employment opportunities, especially for local youth. From construction roles to hospitality and operational jobs, the park will generate a wide range of livelihood options.

Local residents and business owners are likely to benefit from increased footfall once the project is completed. Hospitality services, transportation providers, food vendors, and small enterprises could see substantial growth as tourist numbers rise. Government officials believe the park will stimulate local economic activity and reduce dependency on government employment.

Modeled After Nicco Park: A Modern Tourism Blueprint

One of the highlights of the project is its design inspiration drawn from Kolkata’s iconic Nicco Park — known for its safe, well-managed rides and attractive family-friendly environment. By adopting a similar model, Tripura aims to offer a high-quality recreational experience that meets modern tourism standards. The project is envisioned as a landmark attraction capable of drawing visitors from across the Northeast, Bangladesh, and other neighboring regions.

Strengthening Tripura’s Position on the Tourism Map

The proposed Eco-Tourism, Adventure Tourism, and Water Park is part of the government’s larger plan to brand Tripura as a vibrant, attractive tourism destination. With ongoing developments in heritage tourism, pilgrimage circuits, and eco-parks, the state is steadily positioning itself as a desirable getaway for travelers seeking culture, nature, and adventure.

As Minister Sushanta Chowdhury concluded his inspection, he expressed optimism that the project would soon transition from planning to execution. The state government is determined to expedite the process and deliver a landmark facility that reflects Tripura’s evolving tourism vision.
