Tripura Public Service Commission’s (TPSC) scheduling clash of Sub-Inspector of Excise and Youth Organizer exams on February 22, 2025, leaves hundreds of job aspirants frustrated and demanding rescheduling for fair opportunities.

Tripura Public Service Commission’s (TPSC) recent decision to schedule two key recruitment examinations on the same day has sparked widespread concern and frustration among job aspirants across the state. Both the Sub-Inspector of Excise (Group-C, Non-Gazetted) examination (Advertisement No. 11/2025) and the Youth Organizer (Group-C, Non-Gazetted) examination (Advertisement No. 01/2025) are slated to be held simultaneously on February 22, 2025.

This unprecedented scheduling has put hundreds of candidates in a precarious position, forcing them to choose between two lucrative government job opportunities, both classified under the same pay grade – Level-10 of the Tripura State Pay Matrix, which offers a salary range of Rs. 34,700 to Rs. 1,09,800.

The clash has come as a major shock to candidates who have been rigorously preparing for both examinations over several months. Rahul Debbarma, an aspirant from Agartala, expressed his disappointment: “We have invested months preparing for both exams. The eligibility criteria, pay scale, and job profiles are similar. Why should we be denied the chance to appear for both examinations?”

The Youth Organizer recruitment offers 10 temporary positions, while the Sub-Inspector of Excise post has 39 vacancies. Both roles require candidates to hold a graduate degree along with relevant experience, attracting overlapping pools of applicants.

Career counsellors highlight that such scheduling conflicts not only increase psychological stress but also limit the scope of employment for aspirants. Dr. Anjali Tripathi, a career guidance expert, commented, “In an era of scarce government job openings, every opportunity counts. Forcing candidates to choose between exams of the same grade demoralizes the youth and defeats the purpose of expanding employment avenues.”

The dilemma is intensified by the fact that both posts carry equal importance and benefits, making it an agonizing choice for aspirants committed to their career growth. Many candidates worry about losing one opportunity due to this clash.

Recognizing the hardship caused, several student organizations and aspirant forums have united in urging TPSC to reconsider the schedule. A joint memorandum, signed by various aspirant groups, has been submitted to TPSC headquarters requesting the commission to reschedule one of the exams. The memorandum states, “We respectfully request the commission to review this decision and conduct these exams on separate dates, thereby allowing all deserving candidates a fair chance to compete for both positions.”

The aspirant groups also emphasize the importance of transparency and fairness in public recruitment processes. They argue that such clashes undermine the commission’s commitment to providing equal opportunities to all candidates.

The TPSC has yet to issue an official response to these demands, but the pressure from the aspirant community is mounting. If the schedule is not revised, it could set a precedent that discourages talented individuals from applying to multiple posts, thereby limiting the diversity and competitiveness of the selection process.

As government jobs remain the most sought-after career paths in Tripura, the stakes are high. Many hope that the commission will listen to the voices of the candidates and act swiftly to resolve this scheduling conflict.
